As we starts today message we need to think about how we are building our relationship with Jesus is it strong with a solid foundation or is it shaky or flimsy?
The word i like here is flimsy which is comparatively light, insubstantial easily damaged, fragile, breakable, unstable, frail, I like these next two rickety or is it a ramshackle.
How we live and walk out our relationship with Jesus is determined by our foundation, what are we standing on???
Matthew 7:24-29
This passage brings His sermon on the mount to a conclusion, Jesus complete and total desire is for each of us is to have a strong and sure foundation.
If we look back at where we have been over the last few weeks we will see He is trying to get us to understand the importance of having a solid and sable walk with Him and not allowing for false or misleading teaching to get into our heart and lives.
“These words I speak to you are not incidental additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living.
They are foundational words, words to build a life on.
If you work these words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who built his house on solid rock.
Rain poured down, the river flooded, a tornado hit—but nothing moved that house.
It was fixed to the rock.
Jesus’ true followers not only hear his words, but they act on his words, allowing his message to make a difference in their lives.
The key to this parable (as with all parables) is the central message, not the peripheral details.
In this teaching, Jesus explained that his true followers, by acting on his words, are like a wise man who built his house on rock.
How do we want others to respond to our teaching or to the knowledge that we are passing on.
I heard it said that a Master Chief in the Navy said it was his duty to pass what he has learned on the those who are following him.
Because one day they will be running everything as our future progresses.
So we want to pass down our knowledge and to retain it and learn even more than what we know.
James 1:22-25
James 1:22-
Have you ever seen the person who talks a great game and then when it comes right down to it, he was all talk and no action and fell flat onto his face?
Jesus is more concern about our walk and less about our talk, you have probably heard it said actions speak louder than words.
Our foundation is what keep us straight and upright in the middle of the storms of life.
Matthew 7:
“But if you just use my words in Bible studies and don’t work them into your life, you are like a stupid carpenter who built his house on the sandy beach.
When a storm rolled in and the waves came up, it collapsed like a house of cards.”
Matthew 7:2
In contrast to the wise man (7:24), the foolish man is the person who hears these words of mine and does not act on them.
While both the wise man and the foolish man built houses, and while those houses may have even looked identical, only one house would stand the test.
It is important to know what we believe and stand for or we will fall for anything!
People today accept the concept of individual autonomy.
Truth has been relegated to “whatever is true for you is true.”
Because the possibility of absolute truth has been widely rejected, people now depend on “personal truth.”
False teacher and false prophet believe what they are teaching and our world around us want to believe and teach what they believe to be true.
Matthew 7:28-29
The Pillar New Testament Commentary Matthew rounds off the section with a few words about the effect of Jesus’ teaching.
It is clear that many people were impressed not only by what Jesus said, but by the way he said it.
His teaching was markedly different from anything to which they were accustomed.
The Greek word translated “astounded” is a strong word; it could also be translated “astonished” or “amazed.”
Jesus completely amazed the crowds by his teaching.

We must read the Sermon on the Mount with its final application in mind.
These words of Jesus set before us two choices described in Matthew 7:24–27.
The “wise and foolish builders” share two traits in common: Each were builders and each had “heard” Jesus’ instructions.
What matters, Jesus declared, is not familiarity with his teaching but putting it into practice.
Which is your greater reason for studying what Jesus taught: to increase your knowledge or to improve your obedience?
What you picked up here?
Are you going to chose to be the wise builder or are you going to pick the foolish carpenter.
The choice is ours to make, know body else can make it for you, you are responsible for your decisions.
It is not about our up bringing or our parents, it is not about our past, but it is about our future and how we want to live out the rest of our lives.

We can either live on the sure foundation that is found in Jesus or we can live in a rickety ramshackle found in the lies to the devil.
the choice is our to make!!!
