Introduction

This is a Lament Psalm over prolonged suffering, some have stated that this was written when David’s son Absalom had conspired against him, though there is no hard evidence of this being the case.
Psalm 13 KJV 1900
To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. 1 How long wilt thou forget me, O Lord? for ever? How long wilt thou hide thy face from me? 2 How long shall I take counsel in my soul, Having sorrow in my heart daily? How long shall mine enemy be exalted over me? 3 Consider and hear me, O Lord my God: Lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death; 4 Lest mine enemy say, I have prevailed against him; And those that trouble me rejoice when I am moved. 5 But I have trusted in thy mercy; My heart shall rejoice in thy salvation. 6 I will sing unto the Lord, because he hath dealt bountifully with me.

Isolation (1-2)

Matthew 10:29–31 KJV 1900
29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. 30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.
Matthew 10:29 ESV
29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father.
Matt 1
Matthew 10:30 ESV
30 But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.
God did not forget David he does not and will not forget us.
Matthew 10:31 ESV
31 Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.
Matthew 10:32 ESV
32 So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven,
But there not times we feel forgotten, or even feel anger at God?
When a spouse dies can we feel forgotten by The Lord
When a spouse dies can we feel forgotten by The Lord
What about the loss of a job?
What about the loss of a job?
Or the loss of a Child.
Or the loss of a Child.
What about an unforeseen circumstance?
What about an unforeseen circumstance?
When a spouce dies can we feal forgotton by The Lord
It is not wrong to question God and question if he has forgotten us. It becomes wrong when we transfer that question to anger or questioning the goodness of God. David

David feels forgotten and there are times you may feel forgotten.

when we lose a job
What about the loss of a job
Call out to God in those times
Call out to God in those times
Or the loss of a Child.
God does not and cannot forget his Children
God does not and cannot forget his Children
What about an unfrseen circumstance?
It is not wrong to question God and question if he has forgotton us. It becomes wrong when we transfer that question to anger, or questioning the goodness of God. David
David feels forgotton and there are times you may feal forgotton.
Call out to God in those times
God doesnot and canot forget his Children
Isaiah 49:15 KJV 1900
15 Can a woman forget her sucking child, That she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yea, they may forget, Yet will I not forget thee.
God said here to His People it is unnatural for a mother to forget her children, though she can forget I will not forget
How long must I take council in my soul and have sorrow in my heart
Soul is the seed of emptions and intellect
Basically, what David is asking here is “how long must I receive advice from my emotions in my own limited understanding.
There are far too many Christians that do this, they get advice from their emotions and inflect instead of from the Word of God.
How long must I take councel in my soul and have sorrow in my heart
The Word of God is the FINAL authority and therefore it must be what we base our decisions on
everything must be based upon the word of God
Soul is the seed of emptions and intelect
Basicly what david is asking here is “how long must I receive advice from my emotions in my own limited understanding.
There are far to many Christians that do this, they get advice from there emotions and intlect instead of from the Wrod of God.
The Word of God is the FINAL authority and therfore it must be what we base our desisions on
evey thing must be baced upon the word of God
1 Timothy 3:16 ESV
16 Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness: He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.
2 Timothy 3:16 ESV
16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
Hebrews 4:12 ESV
12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
My friend when you are in a time of lament turn to the Word of God which is
able to teach
able to teach
able to correct
living
ACTIVE
PIECING TO THE VERRY CENTER OF YOUR BEING
LET THE WORD OF GOD CHANGE YOUR LIFE!
Get council from the word of God
How long shall my enemy be exalted over me
David askes the simple question How long will the enemy be exaulted over me
or trimph over me
David is fealing like God does not know so he cries out to God,
Do you cry out to God when you feal like he does not know?
David askes the simple question How long will the enemy be exalted over me
or triumph over me
David is feeling like God does not know so he cries out to God,
Do you cry out to God when you feel like he does not know?
Invocation (3-4)
Psalm 13:3–4 ESV
3 Consider and answer me, O Lord my God; light up my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death, 4 lest my enemy say, “I have prevailed over him,” lest my foes rejoice because I am shaken.
David cries out to God. Notice David does not give got an ultimatum here
It is wrong to say things like God if you help me with this, I will do fill in the blank
It is wrong to say things like God if you help me with this, I will do fill in the blank
Whatever David is going through this passage makes it clear that he feels that death could result and then the enemies of God would rejoice.
Whatever David is going through this passage makes it clear that he feels that death could result and then the enemies of God would rejoice.
Remember way back with David and goliath David was not mad at goliath because of what he said about the nation of Israel, but He was upset at goliath for what how it reflected of God
Remember way back with David and goliath David was not mad at goliath because of what he said about the nation of Israel, but He was upset at goliath for what how it reflected of God
It is wrong to say things like God if you help me with this I will do fill in th blank
The same thing is existent here. David was concerned that if he died the enemies of the Lord would say “see we are more powerful than his God who could not save him.”
The same thing is existent here. David was concerned that if he died the enemies of the Lord would say “see we are more powerful than his God who could not save him.”
David did not want his life to be a cause for God’s goodness to be called into question
David did not want his life to be a cause for God’s goodness to be called into question
This should be a concern for all of us. We should desire to stay the cause because we do not want our life to cause God’s goodness to be called into question
This should be a concern for all of us. We should desire to stay the cause because we do not want our life to cause God’s goodness to be called into question
We ought to be concerned about how the Lord might be viewed because of our lives
We ought to be concerned about how the Lord might be viewed because of our lives
Whatever david is going through this passage makes it clear that he feals that death could resault and then the enimies of God would rejoyce.
of course, God’s goodness cannot be questioned
of course, God’s goodness cannot be questioned
God is good always has been good and always will be good no matter what.
God is good always has been good and always will be good no matter what.
Remeber way back with David and golioth David was not mad at goliath because of what he said about the nation of Isriel, but He was upset at golioth for what how it reflected of God
even when it appears that God is not good, he is good
even when it appears that God is not good, he is good
The same thing is existent here. David was concerned that if he died the enemies of the Lord would say “see we are more powerful than his God who could not save him.”
David did not want his life to be a cuse for God’s goodness to be called into question
This should be a concern for all of us. We should desire to stay the couse because we do not want our life to cause God’s goodness to be called into question
We ought to be concerned about how the Lord might be viewed because of our lives
of course God’s gooness canot be questioned
God is good always has been good and always will be good no matter what.
even when it appears that God is not good he is good

He ends with the fact that he will sing to the Lord because he has dealt bountifully with him
He ends with the fact that he will sing to the Lord because he has delt boutifully with him
