Passage:

13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

Prayer
ME:
I had come to believed that some of the experiences (Problems) that I have encountered in my life, NO ONES ELSE HAD EXPERIENCED THEM.
They were unique!
Share story of the (G.F.H.S) CARLA
Breaking up
No one ever went through a break up like I did!
Over emphasis the idea “My problem was unique!”
Transition Statement: I am sure I am not alone on this right?
WE:
We have all felt like with our problems.
Maybe not identical but very similar.
We have all faced a similar situation!
What I mean by similar is we ALL believed OUR problem was unique!
We felt like the problem we were dealing with was unique.
No one on earth has dealt with this problem that we were facing.
It was overwhelming:
.... teens - Dealing with a situation in HS (Your parents don’t understand) (No one does.)
.... Dealing with a family situation (We are the only family that has this problem).
.... Divorce (No one has gone through a divorce like you have).
.... Job related! (No one has ever lost a job like you did).
It was suffocating:
.... Couples dealing with a financial problem (No one has ever dealt with a problem like yours).
.... an unexpected death of a loved one (No one knows how you feel).
.... you receive word it’s cancer (no one has ever had cancer like you do).
You believe the problem you were (or are) facing is so unique no one can relate to it (No one has ever experienced).
SO YOU THINK!
PAUSE
Transition Statement: The apostle Paul was dealing with a church in Corinth that was kind of feeling this way.
GOD:
Look what Paul told them .....
13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
Read VS13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
If you were to a study on this chapter (10) you would conclude that Vs 13 just doesn’t seem to be connected to any of the pericope’s (Vs 1-12 or 14-33).
This doesn’t negate this verse .... it just means it can stand on its own.
An independent thought!
And a good one if I may say so!
What Paul is dealing with in the Corinthian church?
Exactly what we have been discussing over last few minutes.
We find this topic in the very front end of this verse, “13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man.
13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man.
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version. (2016). (). Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles.
Let me explain (Hang with me …)
I think it would be safe to say that when we face “Temptations” its a problem!
Read the front end of verse 13 again replacing the word “Temptation” with “Problem.”
The Corinthian church had faced community areas that were heavily saturated with Pagan gods and demonic influences.
Look at this encouraging statement by Paul .....
(Vs 13) “No temptation (Problem) has overtaken you that is not common to man.
Overtaken” (Labano) Grasp ahold of: Not to be let go
Gives the idea of someone who is hanging on for dear life!
Overwhelming you / Suffocating like a bear hug!
Any problem that might appear like this ...... Overwhelming/sufficating …
There is not one problem that is uncommon to man.
Common to Man” is a phrase that means “bearable problem (temptation) common to man”
Nothing out of the ordinary / not special / not unique
What is Paul saying, “Any problem that you might think is overwhelming/suffocating (a problem that appears to be so unique that you believe its never been dealt with before) is not unique to mankind.”
Someone, somewhere at some point in history has dealt with the same problem.
Your Unique Problem is not Unique. (Turn to your neighbor and tell them this ....)
LET US REJOICE
Paul goes on to say some more encouraging words .... “God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
God will not let your problem be bigger than your ability.
The Greek root word we find used for the word “ability” is the same where were we get the english word “Dynamite.”
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version. (2016). (). Wheaton, IL: Crossw
Specifically relating to “Man’s power” “Man’s ability.”
God will not let your problem go beyond your ability to deal with the problem.
God will provide the way of escape.
The word escape means just that “Escape” a way to get out fo where you are at.
Paul tells the church God has an escape route for them.
You feel entrapped/overwhelmed like there is no way out/feel like you are suffocating?
God has an escape route for us.
Pauls encourages them .... all of this is given to them so they can “ENDURE!”
You might think there is no one who can relate or understand, no one who has been through the problem you are going through,
...... start signing, “No body know the trouble I’ve seen.”
I am here to tell you this morning there is someone who has seen it all ..... and His name is Jesus!
I believe the Corinthian Church found this verse (13) to be very encouraging.
This was great news for this Church.
Transition Statement: I believe this great and encouraging news for us today!
Great news for this church! Amen?
YOU:
What I think I am reading and hearing from this passage of scripture is this ....
OUR UNIQUE PROBLEMS ARE NOT UNIQUE.”
They are not as big as we have come to believe they are .....
They are not as overwhelming/suffocating as Satan wants us to believe they are ....
Sticky Statement: Our Unique problems are simply Satans exaggeration.
The next time you start to think “this problem is like nothing anyone else has ever experienced” remember this ...
This unique problem is simply Satans exaggeration.
The same good news Paul shared with the Corinthian Church is the same good news we should embrace today ....
Your problem is not bigger than your God given abilities.
Know this ......
You problem will always have an escape route: provided by God!
Your unique problem is NOT unique.
Our unique problems are simply Satans exaggeration.
This statement takes away Satans leverage he tries to use against us.
Transition Statement: This is great encouraging news for us ALL!
WE:
Let me leave you with some encouraging words from scripture ....
When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul.
your consolations cheer my soul.

19 When the cares of my heart are many,

your consolations cheer my soul.

6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, 7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you,
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
and do not lean on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.
Here is the one I want us to turn to every time we start thinking our problem is so unique, no one can understand ......
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
