Intro
A few weeks ago I spoke on the topic of chasing perfection.
And in that message I made reference to social media and how its rise in popularity and use have really fanned the flame of the pursuit of perfection.
That I will only show the best stuff.
That I will only show what I want, or what I think others want to see.
But the not-so-perfect stuff I will leave off so as not to tarnish the perfect persona I am trying to portray
With that I have seen a popular phrase or hashtag titled “living my best life”.
And really, this isn’t new.
For a generation or more we have been told by the media and targeted marketing to live “our best life”.
That we should do all we can to have greatest, most exciting, and let’s face it, the most comfortable life we can.
And so as we have been going through this Chasing Carrots series we have been looking at these different things that we pursue endlessly in the hopes of “living our best life”.
But the problem is that the pictures we post online don’t paint the whole picture.
The statuses we share don’t reveal the whole truth.
There is actually an industry out there, where you send a company your family photo and around $50 and they will make fake family vacation photos for you.
I’m serious, don’t have money to go to Hawaii, no problem we will fake it.
Ever rode an elephant in India?
Me neither, but you don’t have to know that.
This is nuts isn’t it?
I mean how does something like this even exist and become profitable?
Because we are obsessed with “living our best life” or at least pretending we are.
And in my last message in this series I said that when we really get to heart of it, that at its core, chasing all this stuff is really just a form of Idolatry.
Because anything that we chase after more aggressively than God is simply put, idolatry.
So today as we wrap up this series, I want to talk about a carrot that most of us at some point have pursued.
