I love the idea of life hacks. If I can take everyday stuff I already have/ am doing or using and use it for even better stuff, sign me up! I’ve seen some pretty nifty ones where people put soda tabs on their coat hangers and can put another set of clothes on. I’ve seen somebody make a citrus scented candle out of a clementine peel. But I’ve also discovered some life hacks that didn’t quite go as planned… (Pick a few to edit and read at the link) Life hacks gone wrong: https://cheezburger.com/1156869/funny-fail-list-best-of-embarrassing-life-hacks-gone-wrong-stories
Here’s the problem that these people discovered: when you hack something, you don’t always know what you’re going to get on the other side. Often you’re using something outside of it’s intended purpose, or trying to get access to something that’s forbidden to you. In fact in computer terms hacking is “the gaining of unauthorized access to data.” The same thing is true when you hack your desires. When you look for satisfaction, security, significance, or even salvation outside of the intentions of the One who created you for those very things, you’re “hacking” your life. You’re attempting to gain unauthorized access to some things that God has reserved for those who seek Him. We don’t want you to suffer the same fate as these poor people, so over the next few weeks we’re going to be looking at some of the ways we’re tempted to hack our desires, and we’re going to see how Jesus responded to these very temptations and see what we can learn.
When we have a desire for something, we immediately want that desire satisfied. We don’t like to sit in unsatisfied desires.
