Opening video: The human body
The human body is truly amazing. Of all the gifts we have, it is probably the one we take the most for granted, until it becomes sick, or when attacked by disease. An accident or injury that negatively affects your body, reminds you rather quickly how wonderful your body truly is when it is healthy, vibrant and fully alive.
When you entered this life, you were dependent. Then, in a few short, fast moving years you reached a “place of independence.” Ever since, it has been up to you to consciously manage and maintain your body, your life in the places were Your Creator, God, has made you to be responsible. No one should need to tell you to feed your body, exercise your body, or remind you bath your body. God intended for you to take care of your body for a lifetime - from your humble beginnings to your victorious finish, when, thanks be to Jesus, your life will start all over with a new glorious body which you will have forever and ever. Amen.
(Transition) To support your life here and now, our Savior, Jesus Christ has a spiritual body to connect you SPIRITUALLY to him, for you, of Christ.
Ephesians 5:23 ESV
For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior.
It is call the church. There is only ONE church, Christ’s ONE body.
Ephesians 5:30 ESV
because we are members of his body.
You became a part of Christ’s ONE body, when,
Ephesians 2:4–7 ESV
But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
God came to you, because He loved you. Before you loved him. He came to you even though you were dead in sin.
You were made a part of His ONE body, the church, made alive by grace, raised up with Christ, to demonstrate the riches of God’s grace to the world that needs what you have; a connection to ONE BODY, the church.
One Body, where Christ is the head.
Video Brain:
The CPU does for your computer what your brain does for your body. It makes life possible. Christ is the head, the brain for His body, the church and without a connection to the head, you're no body.
Now, Jesus used a different metaphor express our relationship to Him, the night before He was crucified.
John 15:5 ESV
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
Without a Connection to Christ, the vine, we, the branches, are “spiritually dead”, and we can do nothing. BUT Jesus promised,
Matthew 17:20 ESV
He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”
Faith connects us to Jesus . NOW, we, His body, the church can do the impossible. That’s the next 4 weeks of our series. So let’s quickly focus on a few compelling questions?
So if Christ is our head, and we are His body who believe why isn’t the church prevailing today? If Christ has all authority in heaven and on earth, why hasn’t everyone gotten connected to HIS one body.
If Christ is the head of HIS ONE body (ONE church) then, why are there so many different denominations?
Questions for each of us to answer.
You’re probably not going to like the answer.
The problems is not with Christ, but with us, the members.
The health of Christ’s ONE body, is about the health of the members of His body - US. YOU and ME!
Are you growing into the head, Christ?
Ephesians 4:15 ESV
Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ,
If the church is growing stronger it is because we, it’s members are growing strong in grace, mercy and witness.
Paul says, you can grow and you should be growing.
Does peace define and describe your life? If can, and it will, if you...
Colossians 3:15 ESV
And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.
Peace is possible when we are living with thankful hearts to God, connected to Christ the head. AND the stronger our connections to our head, Jesus, the more peace we can enjoy, regardless of your circumstances.
Here is Christ promise, to supplies everything needed for His body, the church.
Ephesians 4:11–14 NIV
So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.
Notice, Christ has provided leaders, apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers…which is who He has given us at Faith. Teachers to teach and demonstrate faith, hope and love to the next gen church.
Christ’s gifts to His church are gifted people to prepare God's people for works of service. In just a few minutes we will be commission, installing and recommitting ourselves as a staff to the building up the ONE body of Christ, here at Faith Lutheran.
Want to see the church thrive in the world? Want to know the peace that passes all understanding? Want to see your life producing more fruit at home, in your family, and out in the world? Then, keep growing and maturing in faith and knowledge.
If you are wondering how that happens, think of your physical body grows, matures, and stays healthy.
Your physical body requires eating, sleeping/rest, exercise. The same is true of your spiritual life.
For your spiritual body needs good, solid spiritual nutrition to grow and stay healthy. A steady balanced diet of this is essential.
Colossians 3:16 ESV
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
The word of Christ is the food we need each day. And weekly, we come to His table we receive His body and drink His blood.
You need SpiritualRest. When we gather together in worship we rest in God’s mercy as we receive His forgiveness. Hearing sermon is good. Writing a sermon is better. Living a sermon is impact-ful for you and others.
Exercise is essential to your spiritual heart.
2 Corinthians 5:7 ESV
for we walk by faith, not by sight.
Daily walking by faith is the best spiritual exercise for our lives.
Here is what the church looks like when we are healthy
Ephesians 4:15–16 ESV
Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.
We are a strong, vibrant, healthy church when we are all connected to our head Christ and working together, building up in love, as ONE Body.
