Would you please stand with me as we read from the Word of God.
1 Peter 1:22–25 ESV
22 Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, 23 since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God; 24 for “All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, 25 but the word of the Lord remains forever.” And this word is the good news that was preached to you.
Entice: Today Peter reminds us that Christ is interested as much in the love that connects us as He is in the truths that define us. Sadly, we do not always get his point, understand his argument, or execute his plan.

Engage: Christianity is not just a list of ways to act or things to believe. At its heart Christian faith is a mandate to love. Peter's argument in this text is simple.

I'm not in love…so don't forget it:

Salvation is both personal and corporate. I talk about this all of the time. It is crucial we understand this key point. And in this text Peter wants us to know that everything about our common salvation. Holiness. New Birth. Preaching. All of this enables us to fulfill the command to love one another.

Love should not be a theory, concept or a theological truth. Transformed by our new birth we inhabit the love of God as we extend it to others.

Our commitment to the content of our gospel and focus on love empowers us to be a unified community of faith living here as aliens in our fallen world. Different? Yes! And that difference makes all the difference as we are bound together in love and honor our Master by serving the Word together in love.

We need to think right, live right, and depend upon the Word. When we get that right it results in a love that is attractive and transformative.
