Are We Seeking A Better Country?

“I’m kind of homesick for a country To which I’ve never been before. No sad goodbyes will there be spoken For time won’t matter anymore.
Chorus: “Beulah Land, I’m longing for you, And some day on thee I’ll stand. There my home shall be eternal. Beulah Land, sweet Beulah Land!
“I’m looking now, just across the river Where my faith shall end in sight. There’s just a few more days to labor. Then I will take my heavenly flight.”
Those who live by faith desire a better country
Do you desire a better country? A preacher once asked three young boys if they want to go to Heaven and to the surprise of the preacher one of the boys said no! the preacher looked at the boy and said you really don’t want to go to heaven when you die? and the boy replied oh I want to go to heaven when I die. Then why did you say no. the boy replied I thought you were getting a group together to go right now. Isn’t that how it is with us sometimes. we want to go to Heaven but just not right now.
we don’t have the desire to be with Christ right now () mentality. I’m not sure if we truly grasp the concept that Paul writes about in for our citizenship is in heaven , from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord jesus Christ
the reason our desire for a better country may be lacking is because we are too attached to the life that we live here on earth.
life is good, we are attached to our families, friends, jobs, hobbies etc. we are still seeking/setting our minds on the things below (on earth) not the above where Christ is
be honest with yourself this morning what do think about most your life here or heaven? what do you spend most of your time, energy, thoughts, money on life here and now or on the things above.
life here is good, no doubt but people of faith realize that God has prepared something better.
God has prepared something better
,,
Hebrews 11:10 NASB95
for he was looking for the city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is God.
it solid, it sure, nothing can destroy it it will not decay. All powerful All knowing All mighty God is the one who built it. nothing will be more beautiful and more perfect that city that he built.
Hebrews 11:16 NASB95
But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God; for He has prepared a city for them.
He has prepared it for us. Its a special place reserved for those of faith and those of faith only
Hebrews 11:40 NASB95
because God had provided something better for us, so that apart from us they would not be made perfect.
John 14:2 NASB95
“In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.
2 Corinthians 5:1 NASB95
For we know that if the earthly tent which is our house is torn down, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
it’s not made with hands, not earthly construction, its not going to be a cookie cutout, totally unique like nothing you have ever experienced before. Its eternal, infinite, everlasting, forever
Revelation 21:2 NASB95
And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband.
like a beautiful bride. can you remember men what it was like to see your bride coming down that aisle. beautiful, gorgeous, a smile that look in her eyes that was for you and only you. the way you held hands and that kiss.
Heaven is better in every way. God dwells there. no evil pain darkness sorrow, heartache
And what a city it is! No pollution, no graffiti, no trash, no peeling paint or rotting garages, no dead grass or broken bottles, no harsh street talk, no in-your-face confrontations, no domestic strife or violence, no dangers in the night, no arson or lying or stealing or killing, no vandalism and no ugliness. The city of God will be perfect because God will be in it. He will walk in it and talk in it and manifest himself in every part of it. All that is good and beautiful and holy and peaceful and true and happy will be there, because God will be there. Perfect justice will be there, and recompense a thousandfold for every pain suffered in obedience to Christ. And it will never deteriorate. In fact, it will shine brighter and brighter as eternity stretches out into unending ages of increasing joy.

do we desire, long, yearn, crave, thirst, hunger, ache for a better country? desire the city of God over the city of man, heaven over earth, God over everything else
