Obeying God's Commands
We all , at some point, have asked ourselves, where do I really stand with God. We live in a world where many people could care less about knowing God. Since God is the source of true life, joy and peace, without Knowing Him, those people miss out on the true meaning of life. In 1 John 2:3-39, there are seven tests we are going to be looking at that indicate whether we truly know God. Today, we will be looking at the first one.
3-6
3 By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments.
4 The one who says, “I have come to know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him;
5 but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him:
6 the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.
1 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an dAdvocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous;
2 and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.
3 By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments.
4 The one who says, “I have come to know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him;
5 but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him:
6 the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.
Keeping The Commandments
() “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.
() “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
3 By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments.
23 This is His commandment, that we abelieve in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us.
24 The one who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. We know by this that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.
4 The one who says, “I have come to know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him;
16 “You will aknow them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they?
5 but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him:
6 the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.
37 And He said to him, “ ‘YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.’
38 “This is the great and foremost commandment.
39 “The second is like it, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.’
40 “On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”
