HOOK
Good evening so glad to see you here tonight.
After the morning service, I was not sure how many of you would come back.
For those of you who were here this morning thank you for coming back and for those of you who are here for the first time this evening, welcome.
This morning I did not have my wife and kids with me, because they were attending our home church Gardendale First Baptist, but they are here with me tonight.
My wife Tinker, our two daughters Zoe and Piper.
I love them so much and I am so thankful for them!
This morning we did what I like to call an old fashion Bible Study and we looked at the topic of, “Are you Ready for revival?”
That was our focus this morning.
We looked at this topic out of from the life of King Asa.
Just as a quick review, this morning our main idea was, “In order for revival to happen, I have to S.T.O.P.
We used stop as an acrostic to mean...
S - Seek the Lord.
T - Take courage.
O - Obey the Lord.
P - Praise the Lord.
BOOK
Tonight, I want to take you back to King Asa because we learn another valuable lesson from his life.
So tonight we will be in and tonight we are looking at the end of King Asa’s life. 2 Chronicles is in the Old Testament, right after 1 Chronicles and right before the book of Ezra.
As you are turning there, let me give you a little background on King Asa.
The story of King Asa is found in and .
King Asa reigned for 41 years in the Southern Kingdom of Judah.
His father was Abijah who was the son of Rehoboam.
Rehoboam was the son of Solomon.

An interesting note…in
Abijah is referred to as Abijah but in
he is referred to as Abijam…not sure why but he is the same person.
The Bible tells us in that Rehoboam did evil by not setting his heart to seek the LORD.
After Rehoboam died, his son Abijah assumed the throne.
Like father like son…Abijah did not set his heart to wholly follow the Lord ().
Abijah's was the great grandson on Solomon.
His father Rehoboam reigned for 17 years, but under his rule, the united kingdom that David had formed and Solomon had preserved was now divided in a northern (Israel) and the southern (Judah) kingdoms.

This morning we looked at Asa’s religious reforms.
HERE IS A QUESTION FOR YOU TO PONDER:
Why do God’s people think that they can make it on their own without God?
Why is it that when God’s people are faced with difficult situations we sometimes seek the LORD, but not all of the time?
Our main idea that we will work from tonight comes from ...

In order for revival to continue, I have to rely on the LORD.
R - Rely on the LORD.
Read in the text with me
King Asa has some trouble brewing and he is afraid.
So what does he do?
Does he call on the LORD to do what he did when the Ethiopians came out against him a million men strong…NO!
What does he do…he goes to the King of Syria (Ben-hadad) and makes a covenant with him.
QUESTION…what do you do when you are faced with a difficult situation?
Do you immediately start to think of how you will solve or overcome the problem?
Do you rely on your knowledge, your connection, your ingenuity, your strength, or do you rely on the LORD?
See...to a lost world they will say you have got to make things happen, but to the Christ Follower when your world is turned upside down you need to get on the ground and pray.
PRAY....PRAY…PRAY…PRAY…One pastor from years gone by said...
The quickest way to get back on your feet is to get down on your knees.
Chin up, knees down.
Don’t pray to escape trouble.
Don’t pray to be comfortable in your emotions.
Pray to do the will of God in every situation.
Nothing else is worth praying for.

By the worlds standards what King Asa did was quite brilliant.
He outmaneuvered Baasha by enlisting Ben-hadad king of Syria who had a covenant with Baasha.
King Asa voluntarily submited himself and his country to foreign lordship to gain deliverance.
On the surface this policy…this move is successful but it shows that he did not rely of the LORD.
Why is it that we do not rely on the Lord in the times of our greatest need?
One thought is, we are impatient people.
We want it now!
Think about it…our culture screams you can have it now.
We are walking around with mini supercomputers in our pockets.
We can get the answer to any question by asking Google…now we do not even have to type it in…we can just say the magic phrase and we get our little magical assistant.
BUT…God does not work this way.
God’s ways are not our ways and his thoughts are not our thoughts .
As children of God we have resist the world ways when it comes to our following and obeying God.
We have to rely on God.
We have to remember what tells us that “But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.”
In order for revival to continue, I have to rely on the LORD.
E - Expect the LORD to move
Look at the text…King Asa did not expect God to move.
King Asa had a case of amnesia…a partial loss of memory.
He forgot that the Lord had saved him from a million-man army.
