OPENING
We’re already in the second half of 2019
In January we talked about financial fitness and biblical stewardship
In February we talked about Love & Relationships, it was highlighted by our Growing Together Couples’ Retreat
And then in March we had a conversation about “Prayer”
The Purpose of Prayer
The Pattern for Prayer
How to pray with confidence
How to pray for a breakthrough
How to pray in a crisis
And then in April towards Easter, we talked about the kind of love that forgives our sin
The kind of love that conquers death
And the kind of love that makes all things new
In May we talked about our mom and mothers in the Bible
In June we talked about our dad and fathers in the Bible
And then recently in July, we talked about the five purposes of God for our lives and how to protect it
We talked about ourselves and things we can do
Today, I’d like to talk to you about things that we cannot do
Things that only God can do, and those are miracles
This month is not about who we are, but it’s about who God is
God has done great things and He continues to do so
I had breakfast with Aj the other day, Friday
It was a great conversation and that’s definitely God
How did I know that it was God?
Because I know my limitations and I know the unlimited nature of God
God has done great things and He continues to do so…
He has done great things in the lives of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, the 12 Tribes
He has done great things in the lives of Moses, Joshua, King David, King Solomon
And even after the fall of Jerusalem, when the people of God was exiled to Babylon, God continued to do great things
After 70 years in captivity, God did great things when he returned the Israelites to Jerusalem
Let’s look at a song for pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem
TEXT: He Has Done Great Things |
Zion is the name of the hill where Jerusalem was built
What about you?
Has the Lord done great things for you?
You would only know that God has done great things in your life if you recognize His sovereign presence in your life
God’s nature, His deeds and attributes are incomparable, for which He deserves all our praise
THE GREATNESS OF GOD
The first half of of describes a previous time when Yahweh had restored Israel, apparently unexpectedly
God is Great
After an initial period of quiet Israel is joyful, and even the surrounding nations notice yahweh’s help
God’s Deeds are Great
God’s Love is Great
God’s Mercy is Great
God’s Gifts are Great
God’s nature, His deeds and attributes are incomparable, for which He deserves all our praise
God’s nature, His deeds and attributes are incomparable, for which He deserves all our praise
The reason why we feel that we are not doing great enough, is because we rely on our limited self
If you want to do great things you have to depend on our Great God
The greatness of His character and the great things that He can do
The greatness of what
We always praise people when they did something great
We should praise God because He not only did something great, He is the greatest!
You’re on your way to greatness, don’t go back to your foolishness
