The Dynamics of the Holy Spirit

“And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing, mighty wind.… And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost …” ()

The Holy Spirit Convicts us constantly. (Are we listening?)

“And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment.”

8And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment.

A. The Holy Spirit convicts us of sin and wrong doing. Many fail to respond to His reproof but continue to practice their sinful ways. Unless they repent, they are doomed to eternal death.

B. When the Holy Spirit reproves us for wrong words, thoughts, deeds, and actions, we must ask for His forgiveness and cleansing and then Repent.

The Holy Spirit Converts us to “doers”

“Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

38Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

A. Repentance and faith bring forgiveness of sins. The Holy Spirit bears witness through the spirit of one who has become a member of the family of God.

B. Conversion brings new life in Christ. It gives a new faith, new hope, and new love, for “old things are passed away” “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”

III. The Holy Spirit Cleanses us completely!

“He made no distinction between us and them, for he cleansed their hearts through faith.”

9He made no distinction between us and them, for he cleansed their hearts through faith.

A. Some Christians fail to make a total commitment to Christ. They are unwilling to give up certain things for Christ—habits, affections, material items, and possessions because we are selfish.

B. We must surrender everything unreservedly to Christ. When we are willing to yield all to Him, the Holy Spirit is ready to cleanse and fill us with His love.

“But if we are living in the light, (Jesus) as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.

7But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.

IV. The Holy Spirit Comforts us completely.

“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you."

A. There is little comfort in today’s world. War threats, separations, divorces, shortages, shootings, greed, selfishness and inflation bring frustration and disappointment.

B. Christians are confronted with difficulties also, but they can possess the peace and comfort that only the presence of the Holy Spirit can bring.

V. The Holy Spirit Controls all things.

“When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future.”

13When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future.

A. Many try to live their lives depending on their own strength. They fail because finite power is not sufficient for successful living, I just preached on this last week.

B. We need the guidance and direction of the Holy Spirit constantly. God is omniscient and omnipotent. He gives those who are totally committed to Christ the power needed for service, His service to others. He assures them of eternal life hereafter. tells us:

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

8But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
