intro

The Apostle Paul had never actually been to Colosians, his fellow minister Epaphras had, under pauls instruction, stared and pastored this church.
The church was doing well, but harships and preassures where slowing coming in. And its in the face of these btroubles that God encourages them.
Colossians 1:3–8 AV
3 We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, 4 Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints, 5 For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel; 6 Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth: 7 As ye also learned of Epaphras our dear fellowservant, who is for you a faithful minister of Christ; 8 Who also declared unto us your love in the Spirit.
As you can see, they had faith, they had love, they had the gospel - they were doing well by God’s grace.
Paul then says:
Colossians 2:1 AV
1 For I would that ye knew what great conflict I have for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh;
What conflict? The burden of knowing that his dear spiritual children were facing difficulties and hardships.
As parents, we care aboout the well being of our chiuldren, and we know that part of growing up if facing challanges, failing and learing to loose, but dispite this, we dont shelter them, but we comfort them.
And this is what God is doing to all his children - God cares for you, he loves you, he is concerned for you.
And while he gracuiously shields us from many hurts, he does not spare us from pain all pain and hardships, we must grow and we need them to growe - however, He is always with us, to carry and comfort us.
And this is what the message is all aboiut.
Colossians 2:2–3 AV
2 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; 3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Colossians 2:2 AV
2 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;
This amazing passages tells us how our hearts can be comforted.
The word comforted in the greek carries with it the power of encouragment.
God wants you to not only have his wonderful peace, but to never stop moning forward, to be comforted and encouraged.
Psalm 34:18 AV
18 The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
Notice what happens next:
Colossians 2:2 AV
2 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;
When your hearts are comforted by God, your hearts are knit together in love.
Horizontal peace always created vertical peace.
Romans 5:1 AV
1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
Romans 12:18 AV
18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
Then we are launched into an amaxing truth of God:
Colossians 2:2–3 AV
2 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; 3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Lets break this down, step by step:

1: All riches of the Full assurance of Understanding

Lets start with that word “understanding”, in the greek its the word “prehensile” - its where we get out word prehensile - monkeys have a prehensile tail - which means that their tails and wrap around and hold on.
Thats the key, wrap around and hold on.
Assurance - Which means to have confidence in God’s grace. - Assurance is ours when we can wrap our heards around and hold on to God’s Word.
Balls explanation
Small - easy - can hold on
Big - cant do it, you can get hold of it.
Hold Small - confident?
Hold Big - Confident?
How do we get grasp? Our capacity to know morer of God and lay hold of bigger truths comes not with secular ability but spiriual devotion.
John 14:26 AV
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
So many christians has no or little assurance of God’s grace in saving or presering them because they have a flimsly hoild of God’s triuth and promises.
we must:
2 Timothy 2:15 AV
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
If you spent half as much time studies your bibles as you do studing your ex’s facebook you would be twice as assured and at peace.
What is it that God wants us to understand? His Word, but spicifically:

The Acknowledgment of the Mystery of God

Colossians 2:2 AV
2 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;
col
God wants us to have comfort by having assuirance, through understanid His Word, so that we can acknowledge the mystery of God.
What is this mystery that God wants us to acknowldeg that ultimatly comforts our hearts?
Colossians 1:26 AV
26 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:
Colossians 1:27 AV
27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
col
Colossians 4:3 AV
3 Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds:
Revelation 10:7 AV
7 But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets.

What is this mystery????

Well its a mystery that can only be solved by God himself.
It is that Jesus Christ is not a man - He is God in the flesh.
Matthew 16:16–17 AV
16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
mat 16
That Jesus is God in the flesh is the end to all our fear and the begining of all our peace.
why?
Because Jesus, as God, prooves that God loves you, that he cares for you, that we longs for you.
This love is proved no where greater than on the cross:
Romans 5:8 AV
8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
passion pic.
Thats not some poor martyr, or a victem of hate, thats not a poor man who is powerless at the hands of the romans - thats God.
suffering because he wants, more than anythingm, to reconcile you to himself.
2 Corinthians 5:18 AV
18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
2 Peter 3:9 AV
9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
The mystery is that you cannot come to God, so God came to you.
That God is not an unknowible Spirit, but knowible and revealed.
John 14:7–11 AV
7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. 8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. 9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? 10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. 11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.
