Marriage
I will never forget the first week after the honeymoon in our marriage.
Our dating relationship was so much fun.
(Tell some of this)
We had a quick engagement 3 months.
Our wedding was fun.
Our honeymoon was a blast (I accidently booked a haunted bed and breakfast for the first night).
We then went on to a Cabin in the Woods in Eureka Springs, Arkansas
It was such a fun week.
Just Amy and I getting to know each other even more than we had in our dating relationship.
It was just a blast!
When we came home from the honeymoon things got real!
Amy got really ill.
She was not keeping food down or in.
I took her to the hospital and they looked at her and determined she needed fluids.
So they stuck her dehydrated body with a needle.
I am the new husband and this is my wife and I am going to make sure she is taken care of so I watched them stick her arm and then I looked at her face and I saw pain in her face like I had never seen before.
I was standing up and I started feeling light headed and the nurse said you need to sit down now over there away from us.
I was about to pass out because of the pain I saw in her face.
We survived that and I took her home.
I went to pick up the medicine at the pharmacy and they told me what it was.
Now this is a suppository.
I said a what?
They said suppository and then they knew I clearly had no clue so they explained it all.
On the way home my prayer life multiplied by 10
My knuckles were white on the steering wheel and I was praying the whole way home.
Lord give me the strength, Lord help me today, LORD JUST HEAL HER BEFORE I GET HOME.
I get it this is my wife and I did say for better or for worse but a little help here would be good God.
I got home and she was in the bathroom throwing up and I said in a soft gentle voice.
It’s a suppository...
She said give that to me and slammed the door shut and said leave me alone!
In a matter of days things changed quickly in our marriage.
We had experienced some real highs and some real lows.
In chapter 7 Paul is answer some questions that they had for him concerning marriage and sexual relations.
Pray
Remember the church is being influenced by the city and they are allowing the ways of the world to influence the church.
When it comes to marriage, I would say this is so true of the church today.
The church today has let the world influence what Christian marriage is.
The result is that many marriages are not functioning according to God’s desire or design.
My desire is that our community continues to understand God’s design for marriage and His design for singleness (later in this chapter he speaks of this).
Taste and see that the Lord is good!
His ways are good, His design for marriage is good.
It is evident that they have written to Paul and so he is responding to some of their questions to him.
He has been addressing sexual immorality and so now he writes about marriage.
The word It is good does not imply that it is morally better and later in this chapter he says if a virgin marries that it is not a sin.
Each man should have his own wife and each woman should have her own husband points directly to monogamy and it does not say he should have his own wives or husbands plural.
Students who are single date for a wife and date for a husband.
Keep looking for the one that is for you.
Make a list of qualities that you desire in a spouse and set those standards high before you even start looking for a spouse.
Example:Good with kids, fun, outgoing, likes movies, loving, kind, how do they treat their mother, good listener
This is not your list this is just some examples but the point is have a standard and don’t date losers.
v. 4 A husband should sleep with his wife or be intimate with his wife.
Likewise the wife should sleep with her husband and be intimate with her husband.
Husbands I am sure that it would be easy for you to memorize this verse and pull it out of context whenever you need it.
“Now honey you heard what the Bible says you do not have authority over your own body but I do”
Likewise wives it would be easy to pull verse 3 out of context and say to the husband now you do not have authority of your own body so go do the dishes or help carry in the groceries
Morris in the Introduction and Commentary says..
It is significant that he stresses the importance of giving rather than getting.
Marriage is the giving of oneself to another.

7, p. 106).

Husbands and wives you should be intimate.
All the talk of sexual immorality had cause some to choose abstinence in their marriage.
Paul who is single writes and says you should not deprive one another.
The reason is Satan may tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
Sometimes my generation grew up on true love waits and it really does but we have true love waited out of intimacy in marriage.
My generation was so scared to touch each other because and I hope to do the same with my kids that is until they are married.
I could go on about this but that is for another time and another crowd.
Well some in this crowd could handle it.
v. 6
I say this as a concession and not a command.
It is not a command to be married.
All single people are not disobedient because they are not married.
v.7 it is evident that Paul is not married in this passage.
He considered it a gift to be single and a gift to be married.
If you are single this morning, then consider it a gift and if you are married this morning consider it a gift as well.
