Opening comments…

Sunday Night’s… 1 Peter chapter 3. Been a while… ....Colby .
money/tithes this morning.... now this… wow....
Peter is challenging Christians to live out what they “believe”.
Got your attention… what’s he gonna say??
Challenge to live out our convictions..
Peter is reminding Christians that our convictions don’t come from society, culture, world. But by the Word of God.
Let’s tackle this. Quickly and directly.
Belief- acceptance of truth.
Verse 1
Conviction- Belief that’s lived out.
Football/Linebackers.
Peter knew exactly what he was writing… married for a long time when he wrote these famous words.
Succesful marriage with a wife who traveled with him in the ministry.
```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
“submit”.... original word was “subjection”.. greek was “hupotasso”.
hupo means under; tasso means to arrange, put something in order.
It was most often used as a military term to describe soldiers submitting to their commanders.
Every time Hupotasso is used, its describing the relationship of someone who is submitted to some type of authority.
God… designed a certain order for the home that he expects to be followed. God has apointed man to be the leader of the home.
BUT.... men before we stick our chests out, ladies before you boo me off stage....
Peter is NOT, NOT, NOT, NOT commanding that women be a doormat who is taken advantage of, pushed around, verbally abused, no no no no no no no sir.
Peter here simply means this.... “wife needs to take her place as her husbands chief supporter, cheerleader, and helper.
If a man is leading his home the way he’s supposed to… then he is taking on spiritual attacks for his family. Fighting in the heavenly realms through prayer, petition, the Word for his family. Peter is assuming we understand this… If a man is treating a woman like dirt… get out. abusive… get out. Man who is going to lead his family in a Christlike way.
Peter is saying “ladies, don’t be critical and fight with your husband… support and love him as he fights for his family.
Move on… verses 3-4…
is God standing against cosmetics? hairstyle? makeup? jewelry?
No… what God is saying through Peter is this… wives… don’t be so obsessed with your outside appearance that you neglect the inside. The Heart. The more important matters. How you look on the inside should be your priority.
Verse 7
YES
Men are bad about this.... treating a woman like a queen while dating and then like dirt when married.
Men, we can all be guilty of this at times… if we want our wives to support us then we should love her like Christ loved the church. Sacrificially.
Now notice… “live”… “dwell”
sunoikeo… partnership/cooperation.
Not just Coexist… but work together, communication, cooperation.
love what Peter says here… “according to knowledge”
Why? We must learn and work at this… men...
how many of you men understand how your wives mind works? I dont… not at all. It’s like area 51 to me.
But we have to work. gain knowledge. it’s worth it. Dwell, work together, cooperate.
most bibles have a topic heading here… peter still talking about marriage, while also teaching about life.
verse 8 - 10
GOOD STUFF HERE....
do not repay evil for evil… we aren’t to be people of revenge.
no no no.
love verse 10… you want to be happy? marriage? life? job?
then let your tongue refrain from evil. lips speak no guile.
refrain- pause
evil= destructive, bringing harm.
angry… do not let your mouth spill harmful words that you can’t get back. That’s not how you live a happy long life. Tongue needs to pause when you’re angry.
Verse 11.. pursue peace.
read the rest of the chapter.
peace… in the midst of troubles.
Feet shod with the preparation of peace of the gospel.
tightly wound, peace of God, who you are. peace protects and attacks the enemy.
Yes! Make sure we are tightly bound with the peace of God in the midst of an ugly, nasty, world.
