Blood of Jesus, sacrifice, cross,
Is the secret to effective, powerful praise and worship
We have been talking about praise and worship and the flow is kind of like a river it takes us on amazing journeys
But to even get in the river is made available by what Jesus did at the cross and the blood that was shed on our behalf.
- pic of the entrance
Moses tabernacle,
Courtyard Entrance was made of fabric that was
blue/divinity or heavenly
purple/royalty
Red / blood or sacrifice
directly represents Jesus
From heaven
Son of god
King of King’s
Our sacrifice
Laid down his life as a sacrifice for all sin
To get in to worship at the tabernacle, no matter who you were, you went through that gate
only one way in
This wasn’t to exclude anybody, it was to show specifically how to get in and participate
All were welcome
Another example
- pic of ark being transported
Captured by philistines
God destroyed their idols and cursed their livelihoods so they returned it
Abinidabs house until David came to bring it back
Put on a new beautiful cart singing and celebrating
2 Samuel 6:5 ESV
5 And David and all the house of Israel were celebrating before the Lord, with songs and lyres and harps and tambourines and castanets and cymbals.
They were singing, dancing, instruments, they were putting on a worship service for the lord as they moved this ark back home!!
But something was missing
2 Samuel 6:6–7 ESV
6 And when they came to the threshing floor of Nacon, Uzzah put out his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen stumbled. 7 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah, and God struck him down there because of his error, and he died there beside the ark of God.
Something was wrong, mistake,
2 Samuel 6:9 ESV
9 And David was afraid of the Lord that day, and he said, “How can the ark of the Lord come to me?”
Vs 9
Move without killing anybody? Make this right
Thought about this for 3 months
Figured out the secret
2 Samuel 6:13–14 ESV
13 And when those who bore the ark of the Lord had gone six steps, he sacrificed an ox and a fattened animal. 14 And David danced before the Lord with all his might. And David was wearing a linen ephod.
2 things he did
To move ark - priests to hold
Sacrifice every 6 ft all the way back
He needed a priest and a sacrifice
Having the priest carry the ark was an acknowledgement that a priest will bring the ark, the presence of God to you, you can’t do it on your own
acknowledgement that with out sacrifice and the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sin. Through the shedding of blood is how God has made us right in his sight. And Jesus being a priest has made available, brought the presence of God to us
The priest and the sacrifice were a foreshadow of what Jesus was going to do 1000 years later
That as Jesus died on the cross the forgiveness of sins was completed. No more payment needed to be made and Peace was made between God and man and offered to all men
In talking of the eternal promise made by the sacrifice of Jesus Isaiah said
Isaiah 54:9–10 ESV
9 “This is like the days of Noah to me: as I swore that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth, so I have sworn that I will not be angry with you, and will not rebuke you. 10 For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed,” says the Lord, who has compassion on you.
ESV
Luke 2:8–14 ESV
8 And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. 10 And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”
Author of Hebrews then tells us
Hebrews 4:16 ESV
16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Peace is yours by the cross of Jesus
Salvation, grace, love, the presence of God can be experienced because the high priest laid down a life for a sacrifice, but not just any life, his own life
Knowing this truth, believing, trusting, is foundational to anything we call praise and worship because without the sacrifice their is no peace, no salvation, grace, no love, presence of God for us to even enter into
Personal time or corporate times, at any time this is underneath
Transition from foundation to talk about what the walls are made of
In chapter 6 of the book it talks about how truth keeps us from
1- emotional extremes because it’s grounded in something outside of who you are or have done. It is true that Jesus died and rose from the dead whether you or I believe it or not. So I don’t have to make up emotions to try and express and have an experience of life because his life is already in me. Emotionalism is something based on me and not Jesus
2- no expression or participation at all. We stop God movements in us because either God doesn’t move that way or I’m just not that type of person. Either way we are saying that’s not me and making it about God
Connect your heart and what God has done to Godly expression.
If something is going on inside me and I’m at a place of giving up something, I’m trusting God in this particular area, I’m surrendering that over to God and His love for me, if that’s what is going on, I might connect that with my hand and raise it up saying ok God it’s all yours
Sitting in a class room, teacher asks a question bla bla do you agree? Raise your hand, you agree and raise your hand
Similar things here
God is showing you something and you see how sweet and cool and awesome it is and so to connect what’s going on in my mind and my heart I’m going to raise my hand in agreement
Expressions attached to what’s going inside are authentic
This safe guards us from me centered worship on either one of these extremes and says even in my expression I want to honor you.
Connecting my heart to my expression helps me in these three areas
integrity of heart,
integrity of mind,
and integrity of speech
Here’s part of it for me,
Sometimes we may be angry, lost, sad, or confused, depressed, we don’t have to fake it before the lord. He knows where you are and what’s going. The psalms show us every conceivable emotion and God is able to handle it and help us through it.
We come to him by his grace asking for help and he does not because we sang or didn’t but because we trust in his grace
So then what are the Godly expressions?
next week picks up in chapter 8
