2. Social Media can be a great tool for the Christian so that the Christian can reach unmeasurable number of people with the Gospel.
A. We also need to remember though that we are christian and our example is powerful even over Facebook.
Matthew 7:20 NKJV
20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.
1. The fruit we produce on our timelines is either good or bad.
A. Those that see our post will judge us by what they see.
1. I have three recommendations that we need to keep in mind before we post anything to Social Media.
A. One must control the tongue to be Christian.
B. What you post, like or share on Social Media you approve of.
C. Your character is demonstrated by what you post, share or like on Social Media.

BODY:

1. The christian must control the tongue.
James 1:26 NKJV
26 If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless.
A. Social media is an extension of tongue that needs to be bridled.
1. We communicate with social media and it has the same power that our tongue does.
A. We communicate our likes and dislikes by what we post.
1.
1. Pictures—food, places we visited on vacation, children, grandchildren, cars, ect...
B. We communicate what we agree with by pressing that little button that says—I like this post.
C. We communicate when we choose not to press the like button.
1. Intentionally
2. Unintentionally
D. We communicate an even deeper appreciation of a post when we share the post.
E. We also communicate when do not share a post.
1. Especially when we like and share things that are not important to our salvation but scroll right on past things that are.
A. This communicates that we believe our friends need to see the worldly matters more than the spiritual.
B. We Might be thinking— I do not have very many followers. I have such a small social media account that what I post does not mean anything.
James 3:3-5
James 3:3–5 NKJV
3 Indeed, we put bits in horses’ mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body. 4 Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. 5 Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles!
1. We have a mighty big influence by what we post, like or dislike, and share on social media because of the power of the tongue.
A. It can destroy like a fire.
James 3:6 NKJV
6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell.
James 3.
1. An example of this is—the hateful memes people post when they do not like a government official.
A. We need to remember that God has appointed the authorities that exist.
Romans 13:1 NKJV
1 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.
Romans 13:1–2 NKJV
1 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.
Rom 13.1
B. We also need to remember that we are to do all things without complaining and disputing.
Philippians 2:14–18 NKJV
14 Do all things without complaining and disputing, 15 that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, 16 holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain. 17 Yes, and if I am being poured out as a drink offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all. 18 For the same reason you also be glad and rejoice with me.
Phil. 2:14-
1. Paul points our we live in the midst a crooked and perverse generation but that does not give us the right to be a complainer or grumbler.
2. He points out that we are to be better than that and shine as a light
3. He points out that even though all of this crookedness and perverseness is going on all around us we are to rejoice and be glad.
C. We can teach against the crookedness and perverseness in our government without becoming it ourselves.
Jude 8–11 NKJV
8 Likewise also these dreamers defile the flesh, reject authority, and speak evil of dignitaries. 9 Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, “The Lord rebuke you!” 10 But these speak evil of whatever they do not know; and whatever they know naturally, like brute beasts, in these things they corrupt themselves. 11 Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, have run greedily in the error of Balaam for profit, and perished in the rebellion of Korah.
Jude
B. Or tongue can save a soul from death.
1 Corinthians 1:18 NKJV
18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
:
1 Corinthians 1:21 NKJV
21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.
Romans 1:16 NKJV
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
Hebrews 4:12 NKJV
12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
2 Timothy 3:16–17 NKJV
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2. What you like or share you approve of and share in.
2 John 9–11 NKJV
9 Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son. 10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him; 11 for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds.
2Jn
A. In this verse they would show approval of a false doctrine and the one promoting it by receiving it into their house.
1. Thus they shared in the false teachers evil deeds.
B. When you approve a false doctrine you walk with it.
Amos 3:3 NKJV
3 Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?
1. When you share or like a post you are join hands with it and walking with it because of your agreement.
A. Therefore we need to make sure that what we like and share are in agreement with our Christianity.
1. If we walk in darkness we do not have fellowship with Christ.
1 John 1:6 NKJV
6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
A. Thus to like or share crude post or pages is to be unequally yoked with sin.
2 Corinthians 6:11–16 NKJV
11 O Corinthians! We have spoken openly to you, our heart is wide open. 12 You are not restricted by us, but you are restricted by your own affections. 13 Now in return for the same (I speak as to children), you also be open. 14 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? 15 And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? 16 And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people.”
2 Cor
2 Corinthians 6:14–16 NKJV
14 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? 15 And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? 16 And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people.”
2. The only way to have fellowship with Christ and one another is to walk in the light.
2 Corinthians 6:14 NKJV
14 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?
2 Cor. 6:14-
1 John 1:7 NKJV
7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
3.Your Christian Character is demonstrated by who you show yourself to be on social media.
A. The fruit you produce reveals the condition of your heart (who you are).
Matthew 7:17–20 NKJV
17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.
Matt 7.
1. If Your post are not producing the fruit of the Spirit but the fruit of the flesh you are in danger.
Galatians 5:19–21 NKJV
19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Gal. 5.
2. We need to make sure what we like, share or post reflects that we belong to Christ.
Galatians 5:22–26 NKJV
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.
Gal. 5:
