Welcome back everyone… It’s the beginning of the school year and you have lots going on and decisions to be made, so it’s a great time for y’all to gain a little wisdom…
give some funny examples of decisions to be made at the beginning of the school year
We’re here to help you out… , so we’re going to be studying in the book of Proverbs for a few weeks! Proverbs is a book…
If we’re honest, young people tend to be a little foolish sometimes. I read one commentary that was nicer and inexperienced but not yet foolish. But I can remember doing some things when I was younger. I left my 16th birthday party to take my truck off roading and I broke the power steering pump while I was doing donuts. At my 18th birthday party I tried to finish a two liter of Dr. Pepper, but I didn’t put it in the fridge so it was hot. I ended up doing some projectile vomiting. When I was 14 I had a friend spending the night at my house and he smoked (so he was unwise) and I let him go into the walk in attic to smoke. The walk in attic was directly over my parents room. When I was 12 I was taking a reading test on the computer at school. I asked someone who sat near me if they could write down the answers when they took the test and give them to me. They did, I went to take the test and I got four out of ten because the computer changed the order of the questions each time. So I can tell you from experience, young people need wisdom!
So we’re going to spend some time in the book of Proverbs and hopefully the Lord will make us wise through it.
Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without criticizing, and it will be given to him.
PRAY
Wisdom is understanding the world through what God has told us, knowing God's ways are better than mine, and living according to that truth.
Wisdom is understanding the world through what God has told us, knowing God's ways are better than mine, and living according to that truth.
God created the world with an order to work in a certain way, and we must live according to that to be truly wise; but in our brokenness we don’t see it.
Proverbs is all about becoming wise in everyday life through a relationship with Jesus–through the gospel. It’s about the life of the kingdom that God always meant for humankind to live. When our vertical relationship with God is right through Jesus, we can be right with others and the world around us.

If you have a “fear of the Lord”, then you admit that He knows better, that his way is better. If you admit that, then you know that we lack wisdom because of sin...
