To Press On

Philippians 3:14–16 ESV
I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you. Only let us hold true to what we have attained.

As a Church we need to Press On
As a Church we can change this town
As a Church we can change this county
As a Church we can change this Country
We are going to step into the biggest year yet
2020 Vision lets make a dent in Debt
Foodbank Debt Centre
Two Foodbanks
To rid this county of Debt
Pepople are strangled by debt
We need to press on to help these people.
In pressing on we will be able to show them the Gospel

Its our Duty to Speak for the People

As a Church we must speak for up for the poor, the opressed, the people that do not have a voice.
Proverbs 31:8–9 ESV
Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute. Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy.
Proverbs 31:8-9
The bible commands us to open our mouths for the mute.
To Open our Mouths for the rights of the desitute
To defend the poor and needy.
We must do everything we can to help people.
We must come together to press on to help people.
We are the image of of Jesus and therefore we must help the poor.
Jesus teaches us to give what we have left over to the poor to not take more than we need.
Story of the Foodbank Family
We are the only Church for 20 miles that are doing anything like this
If you live in Southend There are foodbanks but there are 100 people a week turning up to them
If you are the 51st person in the cue you get nothing.
Same in Basildon
This Couple was like the woman in the bible that Just wanted to touch the garments of Jesus.
Luke 16:19-31
Luke 16:19–31 ESV
“There was a rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. And at his gate was laid a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, who desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover, even the dogs came and licked his sores. The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried, and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side. And he called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.’ But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner bad things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.’ And he said, ‘Then I beg you, father, to send him to my father’s house— for I have five brothers—so that he may warn them, lest they also come into this place of torment.’ But Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.’ And he said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’ He said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead.’ ”
Luke 8:43–48 ESV
And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and though she had spent all her living on physicians, she could not be healed by anyone. She came up behind him and touched the fringe of his garment, and immediately her discharge of blood ceased. And Jesus said, “Who was it that touched me?” When all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the crowds surround you and are pressing in on you!” But Jesus said, “Someone touched me, for I perceive that power has gone out from me.” And when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before him declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched him, and how she had been immediately healed. And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace.”
Luke 8:43-48

The bible said she had sold everything just to get well, then she went and found Jesus
She pushed through the crowds to just touch Jesus
This couple have sold everyhing and then they come and touch the hem of Jesus
Us the Church we are the image of Jesus in this world
They came to just touch the hem of Jesus
Like the woman they had to push through life to just get to us
Yet we stopped and helped them we are healing their situation.
I cried this week when the family left, I rang Sarah and just cried for these people my heart broke for them.
I rememember saying to Sarah that churches are worrying about their buildings, keeping bums on seats, yet Jesus is concerned for the people out their today that do not have a place to lie their head at night.
Doesnt that line sound familiar?
Is it not the picture of our saviour?
This is chiefly seen in Jesus, the Son of God, coming as an impoverished child and later on having “nowhere to lay his head”
Wasnt Jesus born in a stables because their was no room at the Inn? His parents did no have much. Jesus later says to someone that says to him “I will follow you where ever you go!!.”
Jesus replies
Luke 9:58
Luke 9:58 ESV
And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”
If this is our saviour the God who came in the flesh, who did not have a place to lie his head at night, then who are we to worry about bums on seats. To worry about buildings being maintained.
Surely are we not to follow in Jesus example and use the extra we have to help the poor.
Are Churches Getting it Wrong?
I dont want to be like the rich man with extra just wasted on my self.
I want to help people help this family get back on their feet.
Help people that come into the foodbank and give them what ever we have.
Why do we have more laws against poor people, than the rich?
Why do poorer people pay higher taxes than the rich?
IF you earn over 75K you pay the same tax as someone on 40K? Yet if your on the average wage of 37K you pay the same tax as someone on 150K? where is the justness in that?
Lets be a church that follows the Gospel.
Lets make sure that the extra we have we can help others.
Jesus was very much foor the poor, and always asked the rich to give the extra they have or sometimes all they have away to the poor.
Lets press on and be like Jesus.

Jesus and You

Maybe your struggling in life right now, and wonder where to turn to
Maybe your wondering how do I make these ends meet?
Maybe your looking around and wondering how this country will see its self through the next year or so?
Jesus tells us not to worry here the message version of the bible has it in the best context to our everyday.
Do you want to come and touch the hem of Jesus?
Do you want to know this Jesus intermatly?
Luke 12:22–34 The Message
He continued this subject with his disciples. “Don’t fuss about what’s on the table at mealtimes or if the clothes in your closet are in fashion. There is far more to your inner life than the food you put in your stomach, more to your outer appearance than the clothes you hang on your body. Look at the ravens, free and unfettered, not tied down to a job description, carefree in the care of God. And you count far more. “Has anyone by fussing before the mirror ever gotten taller by so much as an inch? If fussing can’t even do that, why fuss at all? Walk into the fields and look at the wildflowers. They don’t fuss with their appearance—but have you ever seen color and design quite like it? The ten best-dressed men and women in the country look shabby alongside them. If God gives such attention to the wildflowers, most of them never even seen, don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? “What I’m trying to do here is get you to relax, not be so preoccupied with getting so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep yourself in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met. Don’t be afraid of missing out. You’re my dearest friends! The Father wants to give you the very kingdom itself. “Be generous. Give to the poor. Get yourselves a bank that can’t go bankrupt, a bank in heaven far from bankrobbers, safe from embezzlers, a bank you can bank on. It’s obvious, isn’t it? The place where your treasure is, is the place you will most want to be, and end up being.
Luke 12:22
Dont worry what you look like
Dont worry about what food will be on the table
Dont worry the clothes that you will wear
The father in heaven will look after you and he loves you.
Put your trust into the Kingdom of Heaven and all its treasures will be placed unto you
Put your trust into the father and he will grant you everything your heart desires
Do you want to come and touch the hem of Jesus?
Do you want to know this Jesus intermatly?
If you want that today, that relationship with the Father
Somewhere you can come and cast your burdens onto him
Somewhere you can trust and know your cares are taken care of
The repeat this prayer after me
Lord Jesus Christ, I am sorry for the things I have done wrong in my life.
Please forgive me, I now turn from everything which I know to be wrong. Thank You that You died on the cross for me so that I could be forgiven and set free. Thank You that You offer me forgiveness and the gift of Your Spirit. I now receive that gift. Please come into my life by Your Spirit to be with me forever. Thank you, Lord Jesus. Amen.
