Conquer with God’s Word

“I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”

11I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.

I. Discover God’s Word

“I praise you, O Lord; teach me your decrees.”

12I praise you, O Lord; teach me your decrees.

A. The psalmist asked God to teach him his Word. We should do likewise.

B. Discovering God’s promises means finding those that apply to our area of need. A good concordance and reference Bible help us locate them.

C. We discover God’s Word when we trust him to reveal it to us.

II. Digest God’s Word

“Open my eyes to see the wonderful truths in your instructions.”

18Open my eyes to see the wonderful truths in your instructions.

A. Webster says that digest means “to think over and absorb, take in.”

B. We need to delve (dive, jump, leap) into God’s promises, studying and pondering them. (Good commentaries help.) Let us absorb God’s Word until we are absorbed by it.

C. Partake of God’s Word. Digest it. The psalmist wrote in “Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!”

8Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!

III. Delight in God’s Word, Be happy and get excited in God’s word!

“Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!”

A. Some do not delight in God’s Word. Reading it is a duty to be performed. Their negative attitude brings spiritual defeat. “I’m not a reader some say.” Really!!!!!

B. Delighting in God’s Word enables us to be conquerors. “They are the rejoicing of my heart,” said the psalmist ().

C. Christians who delight in God’s Word love his Word, obey his Word, and are victorious through his Word. Let us claim the promises with praise (see ).

IV. Depend on God’s Word

“Your eternal word, O Lord, stands firm in heaven.”

89Your eternal word, O Lord, stands firm in heaven.

A. Many Christians do not depend on God’s Word as they should. They rely on self-effort or other people too much—and thereby fail.

B. If we are to conquer, we must depend on God’s Word. It never fails. “Praise the Lord who has given rest to his people Israel, just as he promised. Not one word has failed of all the wonderful promises he gave through his servant Moses.”

C. Few things in this life are trustworthy. Possessions fail, pleasures fade, popularity falls, and people falter. “But the word of the Lord remains forever.” And that word is the Good News that was preached to you.”
