He Atones for the Sheep (v.11-12)

The reality is that sheep are always in danger. And the reason being is that the shepherd voluntarily avails themselves to danger.
Gives us only used here and in Romans and always used as a way of sacrifice.

He’s Affectionate for the Sheep (v.13-15)

I like the NKJV here because the word “hireling” some one who is there taking care of the sheep chasing a check. The hireling has one person in mind. Themselves.
Hireling is not the shepherd- money, false doctrine, no care, Pharisees . The Hireling is responsible along with the wolf for the scattering of the sheep.
You know that as much as you like your job, and as much as you’re friendly with the people in it. If a wolf was headed towards your cubicle, towards your, desk, towards your station, or whatever, you would find out that day you were a hireling. (preach)
Care- anxiety, to think about. “Cast your cares on him, and he will sustain you.” “Cast all your cares on Him for he care for you.”

He Assembles the Sheep (v.16-18)

Now Jesus does some thing highly offensive to his audience. He in rare form informed Israel God’s chosen people that they weren't the only chosen. He lets them know that “yeah, you have and will always be my chosen people, but I’m to great a God to allow all the sheep to die”, I’ve got some other sheep. Because up an till now Israel believed they were alone.
If you found out that your significant other had somebody on the side you wouldn't be too happy either. this is how Israel felt. They hated it! Because it meant that they no longer had the unique privilege of the blessings afforded to the them as the covenant people.
He said “there will be one flock and one shepherd. Now we get the blessing of Abraham that come by faith. Now I…benefits of , protection of Shepherd,…Healing by his stripes…desires of my heart…power to slay giants…peace of mind…peace with God…renewed strength…God who provides…justified by faith…now I know Jesus.
Other sheep? Non-Christians.
Now Jesus did give is life. He didn’t lose his life, he gave it. And the sheep did scatter. It was prophesied in Zachariah and confirmed in that “...“Tonight all of you will desert me. For the Scriptures say, 'God will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.'” Peter…fled the scene and went back to fishing. John had no leader and followed whoever will lead. Thomas doubts were confirmed and he went AWOL. Matthew probably regretted giving up a good paying government job. Simon the zealot probably was ready for war. But, the text lets us know that Jesus didn’t play and being dead very long. He said, “I lay down my life, that I may take up again.”
