?In the Beginning”

Description: A in depth study of the Gospel of John, so that we all might answer the greatest question, which is “Who is Jesus?”.

John is giving a setting to his prologue about the origin of Jesus. Only, that origin is much older than what most would have guessed. It was before creation, in the time before time. This is very profound for two reasons: 1) This means that Jesus could not have been created. 2) It is implied that Jesus is God. Since, the words of Genesis say: “In the beginning GOD created the heavens...
?

“was the Word...”

This means that Jesus could not have been created
He always existed, before the creation of the universe
It is implied that Jesus is God. Since, the words of Genesis say: “In the beginning GOD created the heavens...”
The word used in the greek for “Word” is “Logos”. Which to the Greeks meant: The unknowability of God. So, what John is saying here is that Jesus is the revelation of God to man. Think: Emmanuel (God with us)

“and the Word was with God...”

Jesus was not created

“and the word was God”

The statement of Christ’s Deity
