I want to ask you for minute to think about the word love for a minute.
When you consider that word a whole range of thoughts come to life from the love we share with others to God’s love.
And we know without a doubt there is a huge difference between the two ideas or concepts. The love man has for another person is good at times, at times the love we betray toward others is not pure. At times is it faulty and messed up by the interpretation the world extends as love.
But God’s love is different, it is not dependent on or upon other people, it is not based on what someone does or demonstrates toward another person. The love of God is pure, it is not anything like what the world offers.
We
In fact the Love of God does not change based on what we do and fail to do.. now hear me here… God loves us regardless, that doesnt mean we should not do anything, Remember God as a loving parent might chastise us… but he does it in love.
But here is what is amazing, we can look at God’s love and learn from it, we can model it and cherish more and more the relationship He has with us, His creation.
So lets examine the Idea of God’s faithful love this evening as we are gathered together.
Now let me start with this thought...
One of the greatest attributes or characteristics of God that we see in the Scriptures is this truth, He is love and He loves us greatly,
And he loves us in the midst of our failures.... He is faithful and loves faithfully...
Think about that....
But was there ever a time in your life where you thought… God can’t love me… I have messed up to much, I have failed him… not loved for Him with my whole heart.
I think that is natural to man to think that way… I also think that is part of the accusations the devil would seek to attack us with my friends.
Lets look at David as he talks to the Lord In
And lets look at verse 7
Psalm 25:7 ESV
7 Remember not the sins of my youth or my transgressions; according to your steadfast love remember me, for the sake of your goodness, O Lord!
In this one Psalm David is sure to point out his faults, and asks God to not remember the sins of his youth, how he had lived previously.
David knew there were things in his past that were not right, and as he stood in God’s presence right then… His prayer was the Lord would remember them no more....
Who among us would not need to pray these words with the psalmist: “Do not remember the sins of my youth or my acts of rebellion; in keeping with your faithful love, remember me because of your goodness, Lord” ()? It’s far too easy to look back in distress when we remember our rebellion, our idolatry, and our ingratitude. Were it not, in fact, for the Lord’s “faithful love” and “goodness” toward us (), we would still be in darkness. Because He is so good, however, He shows us the way.
Indeed, considering God’s deep love for us only magnifies the depth of our sin, as the psalmist noted: “Lord, for the sake of your name, forgive my iniquity, for it is immense” (). I thank God today that His compassion and faithful love are everlasting despite our sin.
Psalm 25 ESV
Of David. 1 To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul. 2 O my God, in you I trust; let me not be put to shame; let not my enemies exult over me. 3 Indeed, none who wait for you shall be put to shame; they shall be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous. 4 Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. 5 Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long. 6 Remember your mercy, O Lord, and your steadfast love, for they have been from of old. 7 Remember not the sins of my youth or my transgressions; according to your steadfast love remember me, for the sake of your goodness, O Lord! 8 Good and upright is the Lord; therefore he instructs sinners in the way. 9 He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way. 10 All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness, for those who keep his covenant and his testimonies. 11 For your name’s sake, O Lord, pardon my guilt, for it is great. 12 Who is the man who fears the Lord? Him will he instruct in the way that he should choose. 13 His soul shall abide in well-being, and his offspring shall inherit the land. 14 The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear him, and he makes known to them his covenant. 15 My eyes are ever toward the Lord, for he will pluck my feet out of the net. 16 Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. 17 The troubles of my heart are enlarged; bring me out of my distresses. 18 Consider my affliction and my trouble, and forgive all my sins. 19 Consider how many are my foes, and with what violent hatred they hate me. 20 Oh, guard my soul, and deliver me! Let me not be put to shame, for I take refuge in you. 21 May integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait for you. 22 Redeem Israel, O God, out of all his troubles.
Indeed, considering God’s deep love for us only magnifies the depth of our sin, as the psalmist noted: “Lord, for the sake of your name, forgive my iniquity, for it is immense” (). I thank God today that His compassion and faithful love are everlasting despite our sin.
The best response I can make to Him today is to live by His truth, raise my voice in thanksgiving, and tell of His wondrous works (, ).
PRAYER: “Lord, I praise You today for Your everlasting love.”
