Idiot, the (from the Gk. ἰδιώτης, a private person, one of no special skill), the pseudonym used by a medieval spiritual writer generally identified as Raymundus Jordanus, a French Canon Regular of St Augustine and Abbot of Selles-sur-Cher, who flourished c. 1381. A collected edition of his devotional works in Latin, which were very popular in the Middle Ages, was published in 1654 by Théophile Raynaud, SJ, who first made the identification. The word ‘idiot’ long retained its original meaning in English; in 1657 some writings of Dame Gertrude *More, OSB (1606–33) were pub. at Paris under the title ‘The Holy Practices of a Divine Lover, or, the Sainctly Idiots Devotions’.

Subordinate clause emphasis—Describes the placement of what is most important within a subordinate clause in a position of prominence when the subordinate clause occurs on the same propositional level as the main clause that governs it. The scope of the emphasis is limited to the subordinate clause in which it occurs. See the Introduction for further discussion on Subordinate Clause Emphasis.
LDGNT Glossary
Thematic Addition—The use of καὶ as an adverb (instead of as a conjunction) to create a connection between two things, essentially ‘adding’ the current element to some preceding parallel element. Thematic addition is generally translated in English using ‘also’ or ‘too’. Thematic addition can also be used to indicate confirmation of something, which is generally translated in English using ‘even’. Cf. Levinsohn (2000:100). See the Introduction for further discussion on Thematic Addition.
LDGNT Glossary
Main clause emphasis—Describes the movement of the most important element(s) of the main clause on a given propositional level to a position of prominence in order to attract extra attention to it using a change in word order. The scope of the emphasis extends over the main clause on the same level of the discourse outline. See the Introduction for further discussion on Main Clause Emphasis.
LDGNT Glossary
Sentence—One or more clauses that have a coordinate relationship to the preceding discourse. Sentences which begin a speech reported within the discourse are labeled as ‘sentences’, but are indented one level in the outline to reflect that they are technically dependent upon (i.e. subordinate to) the verb of speaking that introduces them. Sentences are coordinated to the preceding discourse using καὶ, δὲ, or asyndeton (the absence of a conjunction).

For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.”
