Gaining the Peace of God

Philippians 4:8–9 NIV
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
Peace is not a Blank Cheque
Philippians 4:7 NIV
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:
God gives us peace when we
prayer
rejoice
seek out Jesus
it is not a blank cheque that peace just happens
the peace of God is above human understanding
the peace of God will guard our hearts and minds
the key here is Christ Jesus
so our question is how do we get there and then stay there!!
there is a mindset and a set of practices that every believer must follow

Paul has set up the divine nature of the peace of God
as in all things, God’s stuff requires 100% Jesus 100% human to their best
hence Paul’s entreaty “finally”
all that has been said is now summarized by a series of whatever
God gives a principle yet also gives us a way through to achieve that principle
we can do this - it is not hard yet it does need to be repeated consistently and determinedly

right
pure
lovely
admirable
all attributes of Jesus Christ, and of the Spirit’s inspiration to us
we must use these attributes as markers or criteria by which we measure every thought, every word and every action
Anything is excellent or praiseworthy
so Paul gives us a slogan
being church is better
Jesus brings eternity into reality
if anything is excellent
an excellent word encourages
an excellent deed transforms
an excellent thought bring peace
all things come back to Jesus Christ
I can do all things through Jesus Christ
Think about such things
this is where the rubber hits the road
thinking such things renews the mind
Romans 12:1 NIV
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
good, pleasing and perfect = true, noble, pure
we hav eto take responsibility for our walk with God
it is not a blank cheque or winning Lotto

another emphasis from Paul
using himself as an example of note, he calls fro the church to follow his
follow me as I follow Christ was his call in an =other epistle
we do not just follow a man of charisma or leadership or of wealth
we follow one who is following Jesus
hopefully I am following Jesus, hopefully Kerrie is following Jesus
am I doing true and noble and pure and admirable etc?
if I am then my walk should reflect that, I a should be shining with the light of Christ\
decide for yourself whether I am a good role model
the determination to put godliness into practice allows us to find God in everyday situations
how good it is when we are able to walk with God, following our Lord jesus
God is good all the time, and all the time
the God of peace will be with us - peace will be there
