The Book Of John - The Transformation
The Book Of John - The Transformation
Let’s Get To The Point
Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.
John 1:
Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.” Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”

Key Words (Found in verse 1)
Pharisee:
- The Pharisees and the Sadducees were both religious sects within Judaism during the time of Christ.
- Both groups honored Moses and the Law, and they both had a measure of political power.
- The Sanhedrin, the 70-member supreme court of ancient Israel, had members from both the Sadducees and the Pharisees.
- The differences between the Pharisees and the Sadducees are known to us through a couple of passages of Scripture and through the extant writings of the Pharisees. -
- Sadducees were more conservative in one doctrinal area: they insisted on a literal interpretation of the text of Scripture;
- Pharisees, on the other hand, gave oral tradition equal authority to the written Word of God.
- If the Sadducees couldn’t find a command in the Tanakh, they dismissed it as manmade.
- The Pharisees believed that by virtue of being a member of their group they had the right of entrance into the kingdom of the Messiah

Ruler of the Jews:
- Nicodemus was a member of the Sanhedrin, which was the ruling body of the Jews.
- Each city could have a Sanhedrin, which functioned as the “lower courts.” Under Roman authority in the time of Christ, the Jewish nation was allowed a measure of self-rule, and the Sanhedrin in Jerusalem was the final court of appeals for matters regarding Jewish law and religion
Rabbi:
- Jewish teacher and scholar recognized for expertise in interpreting the Jewish Scriptures

Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

“Truly, truly” - Believe Me
“Kingdom Of God” - Jesus knows how to meet us right where we are.
Jesus knows what we VALUE!
When Jesus breaks us down!
Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Nicodemus had a belief system of what he thought the kingdom of God was about.
He answers was from a fleshly and earthly perspective! “How can a man be bor when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born.”
Jesus was dropping and old testament bomb on a person who considered himself to be a spiritual person.
I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules. You shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers, and you shall be my people, and I will be your God.
Ezekiel 36
Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’
John 3:
Marvel: To wonder. To be amazed.
Nicodemus should have known this already
Nicodemus should have known this already
The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
Acts 2:
And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting.
Jesus Wants To Meet You Where You Are
Nicodemus said to him, “How can these things be?” Jesus answered him, “Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things? Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know, and bear witness to what we have seen, but you do not receive our testimony. If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things?
Acts 9
And all the people saw him walking and praising God, and recognized him as the one who sat at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, asking for alms. And they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.
While he clung to Peter and John, all the people, utterly astounded, ran together to them in the portico called Solomon’s. And when Peter saw it he addressed the people: “Men of Israel, why do you wonder at this, or why do you stare at us, as though by our own power or piety we have made him walk?
“Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things?”
John 3:13-18
No one has ascended into heaven except he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
Nicodemus had one perspective of the kingdom of God but Jesus changed his perspective.
Jesus knows how to meet you right where you are.
