Jesus Imitated the Father
Jesus Imitated the Father
19 Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.
To be a disciple of Jesus you must learn to imitate Him.
For example when we want to shoot a crumbled piece of paper to the trash can we sometimes say things like, “Kobe!” or “Jordan!”
Jesus is a disciple of the Father
28 So Jesus said, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he and that I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me.
Jesus Spoke Like His Father
Jesus Spoke Like His Father
49 For I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me to say all that I have spoken.
Jesus knew that He was His Father’s beloved child, therefore being His disciple wasn’t hard work because He enjoyed being His Father’s Son!
When you know that you have the spirit of sonship and not an orphan it will make learning easier because we are His child.
Therefore, being a disciple which is a learner makes it easier to be a disciple when we are operating under the spirit of sonship and not a robot or a slave.
The way you see God the Father determines everything on how you’ll respond to Him as a disciple.
Jesus Sought the Father’s Will
Jesus Sought the Father’s Will
30 By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me.
John
When you are a disciple of Jesus you’ll seek His will and not your own.
Being a disciple means learning everything that the teacher teaches you.
38 For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me.
14 You are my friends if you do what I command. 15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.
John 15:14-15
Jesus strikes a great balance here when He reminds us that although slaves obey out of fear, friends obey the Father out of love.
Jesus was a an obedient disciple to His Father. Always doing what pleased Him.

1 Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.
