Introduction

Last week we witnessed the crucifixion of Christ Jesus.
We went over the many scriptures that were fulfilled. We witnessed his obedience to the Father without no hint of resistance.
We learned at the sixth hour there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour and at that time Jesus cried out in a loud voice.. 12&3 pm
HE breathed his last after a loud voice crying out “it is finished” Tetelestai
He was buried in a fresh tomb, the tomb was sealed and Roman guards were placed ordered by Pilate
Now we are going to move on this week and fished this glorious gospel. As we do I want us to recall some of the things Jesus has taught us during this journey ..........

The Resurrection

Three women go to the tomb
Going to anoint him- so they were expecting a dead body
They were wondering who will roll away the stone in verse 3 which means they didn't know Pilate had the tomb sealed or the Guards being ordered there.
The stone rolled back by the power of God and Man was only witnessed to the event
They encounter “a young man dressed in a white robe” In call his dressed dazzeling apparel
The women’s response to me indicates an angelic encounter, They were “Alarmed” The Greek word for Alarmed found only here in Mark means both fear and wonder, astonishment and distress.
The first word from the Angel is “don’t be alarmed” You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. The word “you seek” is found ten times in the gospel of Mark and each time there is a neg connotation. The response by the angel can be seen as a mild rebuke. The women were preoccupied with death and anxieties to bring some kind of closure with there funereal errand. You seek a dead Jesus of Nazareth because you have no faith in what he told you.
Well the Angel tells them “The Jesus who was Crucified, he is not here. He has risen. The Greek text reads more precise “ He was Raised” It was God who raised Jesus. These women were witnessed to the Kingdom of God coming with Power. Then the angel said Come and see the place were they laid him.
But go and tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to galilee. There you will see him, Just as he told you.
Go and tell his disciples- first I think its important to note - In God’s providence HE decided to first give the news of the resurrection to women. This would not be done if this was made up by man. Women in the first century weren’t aloud to give testimony in court because the testimony of a woman was worthless. Yet this is what is documented in all four gospels.
Also we needed to note, the angel says Go and tell his Disciples and Peter.... (Talk about Peter) Ask provoking questions
Jesus first called four fisherman to follow after him. They all deserted him including Peter’s pitiful denial, but now after his resurrection, Jesus once again is going before them and reconvening the same community of Disciples.
Philippians 1:6 ESV
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
God completes his plans for his church despite human failure
Verse 8 says
Mark 16:8 ESV
And they went out and fled from the tomb, for trembling and astonishment had seized them, and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.
Mark 8:
Trembling and astonishment had seized them. Mark’s intention here is not to depict reverential fear or awe. Not This is the kind of fear that inhibits faith. The same verb tense is used in chapter 14:50 when all the disciples fled after Jesus was arrested. Does fear paralyze your faith? Where is fear holding you back from experiencing a deeper relationship with the Lord.
Vereses 9-20
Some of you
Some of the earliest manuscripts do not include verse 9-20 specifically
(Sinaiticus and Vaticanus) 4th century AD some of the verses were left blank which suggests they knew of the longer ending but at the time of transcription they didn’t have it in the manuscript they were copying. Most all other manuscripts have the ending and that is why its in the bible. I mention this because we as christians need to know the history of the bible and how to have a discussion with people who refute its validity.
Mark 16:9-
Mark 16:9–11 ESV
Now when he rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast out seven demons. She went and told those who had been with him, as they mourned and wept. But when they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, they would not believe it.
Mark 16:9
Mark 16:9–13 ESV
Now when he rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast out seven demons. She went and told those who had been with him, as they mourned and wept. But when they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, they would not believe it. After these things he appeared in another form to two of them, as they were walking into the country. And they went back and told the rest, but they did not believe them.
speak on this
Mark 16:12–13 ESV
After these things he appeared in another form to two of them, as they were walking into the country. And they went back and told the rest, but they did not believe them.
Mark 16:
The road to Emmaus
Mark 16:14
Mark 16:14 ESV
Afterward he appeared to the eleven themselves as they were reclining at table, and he rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who saw him after he had risen.
He rebuked a strong verb not used by Jesus elsewhere. They refused to believe the testimony of eyewitnesses.
Mark 16:15–16 ESV
And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
Mark 16:15
the wold
Proclaim
Believes and (baptized )
Condemned- unbelief
Mark 16:17
Mark 16:17–20 ESV
And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.” So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by accompanying signs.

Conclusion

Contemplate this week the lessons God has taught you through Mark’s gospel
The theme in this chapter is unbelief lack of faith and the faithfulness of God. Is there lack of faith? Will you search your own heart for lack of Faith. Seek the Lord to strengthen your faith,
3. Is there fear holding you back? Being a disciple of Jesus is a life of action. Following him daily not on the sidelines watching for something to happen.
Do you expect Jesus to show up every day in your life? Do you proclaim the good news of the Gospel to anyone? Noticed the what happened after Jesus went up into heaven, verse 20 says they went out and preached everywhere. The Lord worked with them
