Our Father
Our Father
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
John 1:1-
John 1:10-
He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Knowing Who God Is a Person/Being, and in Character are very important to all people, but especially to those of us who are Born Again.
We can “know” by study and memory, what The Bible says “about” God and still not “know” God
Knowing The Word of God is essential, but without revelation all you’re going to have is religion.
I can know facts and information about you, but that does not mean that I “know” you.
I’m the type of person who likes to “know” people, not just about them, and I like them to “know” me.
But this knowing takes giving and receiving.
It takes the giving of ourselves, and the receiving of another.
This is why I enjoy the job The Lord Jesus has blessed me with.
Although in prison, I get to meet and somewhat “know” people who’s lives are broken and hopefully offer them healing through Jesus, “knowing” what He has done for me.
So in order to know Jesus, we must be willing to give of ourselves to Him, done through our personal devotional time in prayer and reading, and He is ready, waiting, and wanting to give of Himself to us through revelation by His Spirit, through His Word.
We’re going to see what we need to “know” in mind, in order to “know” Him in Spirit and relation.
The Word and The Spirit work together just like seed and water, our hearts being the ground.
Aren’t all these what Jesus compared these too as well?
In order to grow fruit, vegetable, a plant, you need the seed and good ground.
You also need water to help the seed germinate, or break open so that it can begin to grow roots.
And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them: But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Matthew 13:
Jesus say that something was “sown” into the ground and each one, based on the condition of the ground, gave a specific type of fruit.
In verses “18-23” Jesus gives the interpretation and says the thing sown is The Word, and it is sown in the hearts of those who hear it.
There are those who satan has easy access to and the seed of the Word is snatched away as soon as it is sown.
There are those who have stony hearts, who have a little bit of available ground for the seed to try and take root in, but as soon as trouble comes or correction comes, the hardness of the stones (the heart/past hurts, let downs) overwhelm the seed.
Those who have thorns, or weeds sown into the ground of their hearts care too much about their material comfort and so continue on pursuing it and give no time to The Word or prayer.
Then the good ground gives as much an increase and the ground is being worked and cared for.
This is The Seed, The Word of God.
The Water
John 3
And he must needs go through Samaria. Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour. There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.) Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans. Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
In talking to this woman of the city of Samaria, Jesus uses what is familiar to the woman to engage her in supernatural.
He speaks of giving her “living water” which is a natural reference to a brook or river, a moving flow of water.
It is also a Supernatural reference in that HaShem described His Spirit the same way through The Prophets.

In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
John 7:37-39
Just as with the woman of Samaria, Jesus speaks of thirst and living water.
John The Apostle clarifies for us that Jesus was speaking of The Holy Spirit/Ghost who had not been openly given at the time of that event.
One more thing before we get to our topic.
Luke 24:44
And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
The Apostles “knew” The Scriptures, in memory. Most Jews of that time were taught and memorized at least the Five Books of Moshe.
They knew them by memory, but they did not understand them and God meant them.
This is where we all start.
So like Father/father, like Son/son.
Who is your Father/father?
Who was Jesus’ Father?
Do you have the same Father?
Jesus could say His Father was always pleased with Him, as He was measured against The Spirits desire for a righteous life as expressed in The Law of Moshe.
Could He say that He is at least mostly pleased with us, especially those of us who have been living as “Christians” for a while?
Can He say our character is like His?
Can He say our passion for sinners is like His?
Let’s discover two fathers in The Bible.
Jesus, God Himself made visible in humanity, made these statements;
And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all? And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
Mark 12:28-
These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
So according to Jesus, whom we are following, knowing that there is only One God, YHWH, and loving Him (singular) with all of who we are and all that we have, is the Principal commandment.
Jesus said that eternal life is “knowing” YHWH The Only True God, and Jesus Christ.
Part of salvation is receiving The Revelation of The One True God.
In other words, if we don’t have that revelation, it’s going to affect our eternal life.
When we receive The Revelation of The One True God, we simultaneously receive The Revelation of Jesus being YHWH Himself made visible in humanity.
Adam didn’t need the commandment because he initially had direct contact with YHWH.
As mankind’s spiritual connection began to degrade because of sin, our minds began to think of God as whatever our earthly minds could conceive based on what we seen and heard.
This eventually gave way to polytheism and to things such as the trinity.
When God appeared to Moshe, Aharon, and the elders of Yisra’el, He shows up individually, not as a trinity
Exodus 24:
And he said unto Moses, Come up unto the LORD, thou, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel; and worship ye afar off. And Moses alone shall come near the LORD: but they shall not come nigh; neither shall the people go up with him.
Exodus 24:
Then went up Moses, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel: And they saw the God of Israel: and there was under his feet as it were a paved work of a sapphire stone, and as it were the body of heaven in his clearness. And upon the nobles of the children of Israel he laid not his hand: also they saw God, and did eat and drink.
God showed Himself to be an individual “Being” with no others next to Him of equal power or substance.
As we progress through The Word, God gives commandments that flow from the very essence of Who He Is. Holy.
This attribute of Holiness is seen when Moshe encounters God at the burning bush.
Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb. And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.
Exodus 3:1-
Moshe’ obedience to remove what God said to showed his desire to be in His Presence.
In God’s Presence, many times this is where conviction takes place about what needs to go in our lives, what we need to get rid of.
Like Moshe’s sandals, most things need to go immediately.
They keep God’s Presence from drawing closer than what He’d like to.
Moshe’s obedience allowed the communion to continue.
This attribute of Holiness is the foundation of God’s Spiritual and Moral character.
God’s Holiness indicates His purity, uniqueness, and separateness from impurity.
His purity cannot come into contact with the impure without something burning away.
For the LORD thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.
Deuteronomy 4:24
Understand therefore this day, that the LORD thy God is he which goeth over before thee; as a consuming fire he shall destroy them, and he shall bring them down before thy face: so shalt thou drive them out, and destroy them quickly, as the LORD hath said unto thee.
Deuteronomy 9
Like a fire, God’s Presence either purifies what can be purified or it burns that which is flammable.
Moshe wanted to be purified.
After the exodus/departure from Egypt, God tells Moshe about the offspring of Yisra’el, that they are to be HOLY as a nation.
If you will listen obediently to what I say and keep my covenant, out of all peoples you’ll be my special treasure. The whole Earth is mine to choose from, but you’re special: a kingdom of priests, a holy nation.’ “This is what I want you to tell the People of Israel.”
Exodus 19:
By obeying God’s commandment to be holy, that is to say separate and pure, as He would soon share what was impure, Yisra’el would be a special treasure to God.
