In 1968, Dr. Spencer Silver, a scientist at 3M in the United States, was attempting to develop a super-strong adhesive. Instead, he accidentally created a "low-tack", reusable, pressure-sensitive adhesive. For five years, Silver promoted his "solution without a problem" within 3M both informally and through seminars, but failed to gain acceptance. In 1974, a colleague who had attended one of his seminars, Art Fry, came up with the idea of using the adhesive to anchor his bookmark in his hymn book. Fry then utilized 3M's officially sanctioned "permitted bootlegging" policy to develop the idea. The original notes' yellow color was chosen by accident, as the lab next-door to the Post-It team had only yellow scrap paper to use.
3M launched the product as "Press 'n Peel" bookmark in stores in four cities in 1977, but results were disappointing. A year later, 3M instead issued free samples directly to consumers in Boise, Idaho, with 94 percent of those who tried them indicating they would buy the product. The product was sold as "Post-Its" in 1979 when the rollout introduction began, and was sold across the United States from April 6, 1980. The following year, they were launched in Canada and Europe.

People use them for many reason.
Write verses on them
Grocery list
I use them to remind me of things I need to do.
I am getting older and I find myself not remembering as well as I use to.
Share story of Older couple and Forgetting
A couple in their nineties are both having problems remembering things. During a checkup, the doctor tells them that they're physically okay, but they might want to start writing things down to help them remember.
A couple in their nineties are both having problems remembering things. During a checkup, the doctor tells them that they're physically okay, but they might want to start writing things down to help them remember.
Later that night, while watching TV, the old man gets up from his chair. "Want anything while I'm in the kitchen?" he asks.
"Will you get me a bowl of ice cream?"
"Sure.."
"Don't you think you should write it down so you can remember it?" she asks.
"No, I can remember it."
"Well, I'd like some strawberries on top, too. Maybe you should write it down, so as not to forget it?"
He says, "I can remember that. You want a bowl of ice cream with strawberries."
"I'd also like whipped cream. I'm certain you'll forget that, write it down?" she asks.
Irritated, he says, "I don't need to write it down, I can remember it! Ice cream with strawberries and whipped cream - I got it, for goodness sake!"
Then he toddles into the kitchen. After about 20 minutes, The old man returns from the kitchen and hands his wife a plate of bacon and eggs.. She stares at the plate for a moment.
"Where's my toast?"
I don’t think Shelly and I are that bad.
I do remember that August is Her BIRTH MONTH (Today is her Birthday)
If you are a tech nerd like me I use the Apple app for reminders.
I had a hard time bringing my wife along in using this app.
But she caught on ..... boy has she caught on!
We share a calendar and I would find things on our calendar and say to her why is “call for Hair appt.” on our calendar?
You need to put this on your reminders and it will remind you on the day you select it to remind you.
I showed her how and she has taking “REMINDERS” to a whole new level.
But she caught on ..... boy has she caught on!
LET ME READ YOU SOME
My favorite “Send out email for Underwear” (6/25/19)
She does use her reminder for a really cool thing: Music playing at certain times during the day to reminder her to stop and reflect on God.
Transition Statement: I bet there are many of us here this morning who struggle with remembering things.
WE:
Many of you probably have ways of reminding yourself of things.
I ran across a lady who shared how she (non-electronically) reminders herself of things .....
If she is at work and she remembers an errand she need to run on the way home, she puts a rubber band around her wrist.
If i’m at work and remember an errand I need to run on the way home, I put a rubber band around my wrist.
If she is in a meeting and can’t make a note, she switch her watch to the other wrist.
If she just dropping off to sleep at night and she dose not want to wake herself up by turning on the light to write a note, she puts her glasses in front of her alarm clock instead of behind it.
If she needs to take a small item to work with her, she puts it in the basket with her keys. Larger items go on the floor in front of the back door.
I bet many of you have some ingenious ways of reminding yourselves ..... (non-electronically).
Many of us might use the Apple reminder or the android one
But some of us might still use the old “To Do List” or “POST-IT” notes.
NOW LET”S BE HONEST .....
How many of us would struggle remembering without these methods/devices/apps?
I don’t believe there are more than 1 maybe 2 people here this morning who have Photographic memory or Eidetic Memory!
But the rest of us ...... we struggle with remembering things!
Transition Statement: Many of us (including myself) have a hard time remembering, ESPECIALLY SCRIPTURE?!
How many of you have a hard time remembering,
You know what I love about God, “HE KNEW WE WOULD!”
So he provided a way for us to remember things, Specifically things about Him!
GOD:
Last week as we started looking into the MINISTRY of the HOLY SPIRIT
We discovered the Holy Spirit is our “GREAT TEACHER!” (He teaches us “ALL THINGS!”)
This week we are looking at the MINISTRY of the HOLY SPIRIT, and we see that He is our “REMINDER”!
Let’s read verse 26 again .... But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
The GREEK word we find here for the phrase “bring to remembrance” is the word (HYPOMIMNESKO)
The definition of this word is ..... to remember after hints/suggestions.
This remembering is understood in terms of presenting the known truth of the Gospel, AGAIN.
If you are wanting to see an example of this there is no better one than the Gospel writers (All 4 of them) account that has been written down.
This is what is believed and claimed to have happen with the Gospel writers.
As they penned down the scriptures, what the Holy Spirit was doing was “Bringing to Remembrance”
NOT SOMETHING NEW!!!!!!
Reminding them of what they had experience first hand or had heard about. (Bringing to remembrance)
This word “Hypomimnesko” is not saying ......
..... the bringing to mind something they had never read, heard or seen!
This word clarifies the idea that the Holy Spirit will “bringing to remembrance” things they have already read, heard, or have seen.
Let me give you some examples:
We have, recorded in scripture, where Peter merely looks into the eyes of Jesus and is reminded.
( And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the saying of the Lord, how he had said to him, “Before the rooster crows today, you will deny me three times.” )
And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the saying of the Lord, how he had said to him, “Before the rooster crows today, you will deny me three times.”
While Christ was with them, ..... all they had to do was simply look into the eyes of Christ and He would remind them!
Have you ever experienced this before?
The Holy Spirit had told you something was going to take place and when it happened later on you were reminded HE TOLD YOU IT WOULD?
( 4 While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. 5 And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? 6 He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee,)
While Christ was with them He was revealing to them what was to come. About everything!
4 While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel.
Have you ever been reminded by an Angel (someone you might have thought was an angel) of what the Lord has spoken to you?
5 And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead?
probably gives us one of the best accounts of the Reminding ministry of the Holy Spirit ...
6 He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee,
English Standard Version Chapter 12
13 So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!”
14 And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written,
15 “Fear not, daughter of Zion;
behold, your king is coming,
sitting on a donkey’s colt!”
16 His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him.
This makes me know that we are never going to be able to stand before Christ in Judgement day and say we didn’t know scripture
Church, I am hear to tell you this is what the Holy Spirit longs to do for us today, REMIND US!
Church, I am hear to tell you this is what the Holy Spirit longs to do for us today, REMIND US!
Church, I am hear to tell you this is what the Holy Spirit longs to do for us today, REMIND US!
Part of the Holy Spirits ministry is to bring to our memory exactly what verses we need - when we need it.
If our partnership with the Holy Spirit is strong, we can lean upon Him the moment our memory fails us, because it is His responsibility to remind us of the WORD of GOD!
When we are in a difficult situation ....
… don’t know what to say (He will remind us of a verse)
He will bring about the exact verse we need at just the right moment.
Perhaps this particular reminding work of the Holy Spirit is best illustrated in parts of the world where the Bible is illegal. My family lives in the former Soviet Union, where the Bible was forbidden for more than 70 years. I am constantly in awe as I meet leaders and entire churches that had only one Bible over a span of many years. Sometimes it was a hand-copied version with torn and tattered pages from decades of use. Those yellow, tattered pages of the Word of God meant everything to them.
It is the most amazing thing to see people who have had limited access to the Bible and yet know it so well. They can quote it and remember it better than people in free countries who have several Bibles in their homes and the opportunity to read them every morning and every night. There is only one explanation: the Holy Spirit. He is doing exactly what Jesus said He would do — putting them in remembrance of the Word of God.
Transition Statement: Would you like to be able to recall scripture at ease?
YOU:
I would be safe to say the majority of us struggle when it comes to memorization.
You struggle remembering people names, places, birthdays, anniversaries, and the list could go on .....
Don’t be too discouraged! We all do!
I bet the majority of us here this morning would like to be able to memorize scripture but struggle.
There is great news for all of us ....... This is what the Holy Spirit has come to do.
HELP US RECALL CHRIST ...... WHAT HE HAS DONE ....... HIS WORD
You might be sitting here this morning saying, “I want to be able to do this!”
At the right moment I want to be able to recall the perfect passage of scripture for the right situation.
BUT IT DOESN’T HAPPEN! WHY??????
What if I told you it was because of something found in the Word!
Turn with me to You do not have, because you do not ask.
You do not have, because you do not ask.
“Ask and it will be given to you, ...”
“If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”
“And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”
And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”
PAUSE:
There is one other thing that needs to be done in order for this to happen as well.
7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
Jesus told them he was sending a helper (The Holy Spirit)
We know that in Acts Chapter 2 the Holy Spirit came.
Scripture tell us that the Holy Spirit dwells within the Believer.
We have not because we ask not!
But when Jesus said the Holy Spirit was going to “BRING to REMEMBRANCE”
He said he would bring to remembrance ALL THAT HE (I) HAVE SAID TO YOU!
Whats the other thing that needs to be done?
Read God’s WORD!
What Jesus has said to us is written down in HIS THIS BOOK.
Meaning this, you can ask the Holy Spirit to “Bring to remembrance” all afternoon (He might and could do it) but unless you are in His word, reading His word, studying His word, there is a good chance the Holy Spirit will not be “Bringing to Remembrance” because there is nothing to bring!
EXAMPLE: The Disciples in the upper room ..... Spoke what they had already knew just in a different language.
English Standard Version Chapter 4
You do not have, because you do not ask.
