The word ORPHAN appears only 2 times in the NT. It is also found in :
James 1:27 NIV84
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
ORPHAN means comfortless, parent-less.
Isn’t interesting that Jesus would say this?
There are 2 promises here:
That the disciples will not be left comfortless or parent-less.
That Jesus will come to the disciples:He came to them after the resurrection; He came to them as the Counselor/Comforter.
What a beautiful reminder that the Holy Spirit is not about just spiritual gifts or the idea of godliness, but the assurance that Christ dwells within us.

Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.
We see this reiterated in :

We will see later in that the disciples were overjoyed in seeing their Lord.

20/20 vision! They could see clearly later what He was telling them now!
They saw Him in a way the world could not.
When Jesus was discussing being the Bread of Life, He said in :

Therefore, here in , we have the powerful statement: “because I live, you also will live.”

“That day” is the day Jesus is glorified and His Spirit is poured out. It will become clearer. They will gain a greater understanding of Christ being in the Father. The Father is in Christ, and that Christ is in them.

Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.

There is a dignity in keeping the commands of Christ. We hear them, we see them written in His word, we know them, but that is not enough. We must obey them. It is the greatest show of our love for Him. In return, we have the Father’s love:

we have Christ’s love. He is our mediator and we will receive great comfort in that love.

The belief among first century Jews was that the Messiah was coming in way to rule the world. This was a valid question. But before the answer is given, John makes sure that the identity of the Judas is correctly understood.

Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.
Talking about repetition! We see this in verse 15, 21 and here. We will see again in 15:10.
Simply put, if you love Jesus, you obey His commands. Repetition confirms our faith.
The word “home” is referencing back to 14:2. The Father and the Son make a dwelling within us. We don’t get just One, we get both! They come as ONE - together. What does it mean for the Father and the Son to make their home with us?

Another emphasis of the parallel of obedience and love. We see here the example of Jesus to do that which He is called to do. There is a duty. But duty must come through love.

The words of Jesus that were spoken were living words while He lived among them.

The Comforter, the Counselor, The Holy Spirit sent by the Father. The purpose is to teach and remind us of the teachings of Jesus.

Have you ever be taught something then forgot it? Then, remembered it? It is by the prompting of the Holy Spirit that happens.
Notice the closeness of the Spirit to Jesus. They work together, never apart.
Whenever anyone is committed to Jesus, the Spirit is at work.

The normal way to say goodbye was PEACE. Shalom. Jesus tells His disciples goodbye by saying, “I leave you peace.” It is harmony, security, safety, prosperity, and a peace that leads to salvation. They would have peace with God

The world can’t know this kind of peace because the world strives to put disorder in one’s life. Remember creation? God took chaos and created order. Chaos is the opposite of peace. The world is chaos. The Holy Spirit produces peace.

When we have His peace, there is no troubling of our hearts.

A reminder of the departure. Assurance that it is a good thing.
Why does Jesus, who is God, say, “The Father is greater than I?”
Could it be interpreted that the messenger is not greater than the One Who sent the message?
The Father sent the Son. The Son willingly obeyed. the Son died on the cross. The Father raised the Son from the dead. Jesus always said the Father was greater than the Son.

I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe.
Jesus prepared His disciples for that which was to come. This is part of the PEACE He has given. No matter what happens, we can be assured of the fact He is with us. What can we learn from this?
How can we be assured that it is going go be okay?

I will not speak with you much longer, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold on me, but the world must learn that I love the Father and that I do exactly what my Father has commanded me. “Come now; let us leave.
This initially is referencing the work of Satan in Judas that was getting ready to be completed. However, we see from other scripture that the world, those without Christ, is under control of the evil one.

We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.
Death was not the defeat but on ace of obedience to the Father. The fact is that everything does not revolve around us but around God.
