Introduction
One of the most famous parables of Jesus is known as The Good Samaritan.
Let me give you a condensed version of this passage (found in Lk 10):
One day, an expert in the Jewish law asked Jesus, “Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life? What does the law say about that?”
Luke 10:27 NIV
He answered, “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
“Yes, but who is my neighbor?”
PARABLE: Jesus told him about a Jewish man travelling in the countryside. Along the way, some bad guys attacked him - stripped and beat him til he was nearly dead. A priest walked by, and seeing the man passed out on the side of the road, made a beeline for the other side of the road. Later, a Levite came walking by. He also crossed the road.
Soon after, a Samaritan came by. When he saw the injured man he went to him and administered first aid. Then the Samaritan placed the man on his own animal, took him to an inn, and cared for him. When it was time to leave he gave the innkeeper 2 denari (approx. 1 day’s wages) and instructed him to care for the wounded man. “When I come back I will reimburse you for whatever extra money you spend.”
Luke 10:36–37 NIV
“Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?” The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”
The word of Jesus that stands out to me is the word “Go”.
Today’s message is entitled “Give, Go, Gain”. This parable clearly shows the Samaritan Giving and Going. He gave of his time, engergy, and money. The word Go applies to him b/c he physically took the injured man to a place of healing.
None of us can consistently give and go…making personal sacrifices, unless we daily pursue a deeper, more powerful relationship with Jesus. In that relationship is where we gain the most wonderful blessings ever.
REMEMBER THIS: People that love Jesus deeply understand that giving and going for Him brings great gain.
Big Idea: People that love Jesus deeply understand that giving and going, for Him, brings great gain.
Transitional: Giving and Going in order to lift up Jesus’ name and share His message is not easy. However, the blessings we gain from following Jesus far outweigh the sacrifices we might make

Giving that honors Christ reflects our deep love for Jesus

Giving of this kind honors God with our time, talent, and treasure
Matthew 6:21 NIV
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Treasure
Matthew 6:21 NIV
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Put your money where your mouth is
What you spend the most money on (outside of normal living expenses) reveals what you treasure most. Think about that!
Tithe
Tithe
Malachi 3:10 NIV
Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.
Treasure
Proverbs 3:9–10 NIV
Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.
Tithe
Offering
2 Corinthians 9:7 NIV
Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
2 Cor 9:27
Alms
Proverbs 28:27 NIV
Those who give to the poor will lack nothing, but those who close their eyes to them receive many curses.
Time
Time
Ephesians 5:16 NIV
making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.
Time
John 9:4 NIV
As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work.
Talent
Don’t bury them or put them in a drawer somewhere
Parable of the talents (Mt. 25)
One invested all 5 bags of gold and doubled his masters money
One was able to double the 2 bags of gold for his master
One was afraid of the Master so he buried his gold.
Application
How willing are you to sacrifice your time, treasure, and talent?
The measuring rod for how you answer that question is your relationship with the Lord
How deep is your love for Jesus? Does that love move you to give…for His honor and in service to His call upon you?
Transitional: We cannot approach the importance of giving without running in the importance of going

Going that honors Christ reflects our deep love for Jesus

Do you want to honor Christ in your life?
Do you want to honor Christ in your life?
If so, what kind of “going” are we talking about?
Cross
Matthew 7:21–23 NIV
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

In first Corinthians 12 Paul compares the church to a body — baptized into one Spirit — the body is not made up of one part but many
In first Corinthians 12 Paul compares the church to a body — baptized into one Spirit — the body is not made up of one part but many
As a member of His family, you are called to:
1 Corinthians 12:12–14 NIV
Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.
Promote truth and unity -
You are called to promote truth and unity - Ephesians 4:25 says, "Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body."You are called to service - 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 outlines the importance of using your God-given spiritual gift. It is essential to the body that you use your special gift in service to God.You are called to share Jesus - Romans 1:16 says, "I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes…" As part of the body of Christ, you are to share your life-changing story with others! You are called to worship - "It is good to praise the LORD and make music to your name, O Most High, to proclaim your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night" (Psalm 92:1-2).You are called to love each another - "1 John 4:11 says, "Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another."
