Why must we be ready for the Lord’s return?
- Because what God said will come to pass
- It will happen at His appointed date and time
When will the Lord return?
- No one knows and God will not reveal it. (Matthew 24:36)
The world does not believe in Christ’s return
2 Peter 3:3-4
How to Prepare for the Lord's Return?
1. Be Ready
- At all times (vv.1-2)
- Ready
- prepared mentally or physically for some experience or action (Merriam-Webster)
- completely prepared or in fit condition for immediate action or use (Dictionary.com)
- duly equipped, completed, adjusted, or arranged, as for an occasion or purpose (Dictionary.com)
No one knows the exact day, time or season
No advance warning will be given
Be ready and wait actively, so that you won’t be caught by surprise.
2. Be Watchful
(vv.3-5)
- Watch what is happening around you and in the nation
- Watch what is happening around the world
- Watch like a woman in labor
- Be watchful so that nothing catches you by surprise
3. Be Alert and Self-Controlled
(vv.6-7)
- Be Serious, Be Sober, Be Steadfast, Be Self-controlled
- Don’t be foolish, shaky and complacent
- Take God’s warning seriously
4. Be Dressed for Battle and Service
(v.8)
5. Be Assured and Confident
(vv.9-10)
- Tell others of the hope within us
- Share the gospel boldly, so that others will obtain salvation too
- Jesus’ soon return and the believers’ resurrection offer hope and meaning for living
6. Be Responsible
(vv.11)
- Be real and true – not a hypocrite
- Be responsible and credible
- Then, you can:
- Encourage and build up one another in the faith
- Challenge and remind each other to persevere and wait expectantly for His soon coming
