Jonah Chapter 4
Jonah Chapter 4
Recap of specifically V.10 leading to Ch 4
Most would be excited to see a revival
1. The Displeasure of Jonah V. 1-5
- Jonah is angry that the Lord has shown grace and compassion.
- Even though Jonah had been the recipient of that Grace and Compassion just a chapter earlier.
2. The Lords Explanation V.6-8
- God understands that it takes a little for some of us to understand His will and so some times he gives us visual aids.
3. Explanation Stated V.9-11
God points out to Jonah how the Ninevites are a sinful people who need a loving God
Jonah had just witnessed a great Revival and yet was more concerned about his plant.
Jonah had more compassion for the plant than he did these people who were severely lost and in need of God.
4. Pointing Finger
It is easy for us to look at the story of Jonah and point out his mistakes that he makes.
And yet we must remember that sometimes we also have a tendency to act like Jonah.
God maybe has not called us to preach a message of repentance to a Large foreign country
He has called us to have Compassion and Grace to all those we come in contact.
New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update Chapter 12
29 Jesus answered, “The foremost is, ‘HEAR, O ISRAEL! THE LORD OUR GOD IS ONE LORD;
30 AND YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.’
31 “The second is this, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
