Dishonest scales are detestable to the Lord, but an accurate weight is his delight.
[STRUCTURE: vv. 1 & 20 are an inclusio bracketing this section; a twisted mind is a crooked/immoral mind]

Be HUMBLE (11.2-4)
[STRUCTURE: Inverted parallel/chiasm vv. 1-4, center = 2b/3a]
The fear of the Lord is what wisdom teaches, and humility comes before honor.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and discipline.

Arrogance, Foolishness, Perversity, Disgrace.
Walk SECURELY (11.5-8)
[STRUCTURE: Two proverb pairs—vv. 5-6=the end of the wise & the fool; vv. 7-8=focus on the end of the wicked with simple statement of fact on the end of the righteous]
How happy is the one who does not walk in the advice of the wicked or stand in the pathway with sinners or sit in the company of mockers! Instead, his delight is in the Lord’s instruction, and he meditates on it day and night. He is like a tree planted beside flowing streams that bears its fruit in its season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.

The wicked are not like this; instead, they are like chaff that the wind blows away. Therefore the wicked will not stand up in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to ruin.

Psalm 1.
“The righteous one is rescued from trouble.”
Clears path, Rescued.
Wicked - Falls, Trapped, Nothing, Vanishes.
Speak RIGHTEOUSLY (11.9-13)
[STRUCTURE: Inverted parallel/chiasm + 1; focal point=people will respond joyfully to us…living wisely=while we live, living foolishly=when we die]
Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.
Prov 14.
Specifically, in God’s eyes (and doesn’t this matter?)
Ungodly - Destroys neighbor, Death brings joy, City torn down, Is senseless.
Godly - Righteous rescued, Thriving brings city joy, City built up, Understanding silence.
A gossip goes around revealing a secret, but a trustworthy person keeps a confidence.
Prov
This truth is bottom-line non-negotiable!
Lead TO LIFE (11.14-19)
[STRUCTURE: Parallel proverb series (3 of them, last is inverted/chiastic); emphasis=wise guide others to life, especially eternal! (thus “Who’s Your One?”)]
Which do you want…riches or honor? (why not both? You might be able to only if you prioritize wisdom and leave God to determine the rest)
Wisdom/Prudence - Deliverance, Protection, Honor, Benefits himself, True reward, Life.
Foolish/Imprudent - Fall, Suffering, Only riches, Ruin, Empty wage, Death.
(Remember to always think in terms of eternal significance!)
because the one who sows to his flesh will reap destruction from the flesh, but the one who sows to the Spirit will reap eternal life from the Spirit. Let us not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up.
Galatians 6.8
Those with twisted minds are detestable to the Lord, but those with blameless conduct are his delight.
