MAINTAINING PROPER PRAISE WHILE IN PAIN FROM PERSECUTION

Hebrews 12:18 ESV
For you have not come to what may be touched, a blazing fire and darkness and gloom and a tempest
Hebrews 12:19 ESV
and the sound of a trumpet and a voice whose words made the hearers beg that no further messages be spoken to them.
Hebrews 12:20 ESV
For they could not endure the order that was given, “If even a beast touches the mountain, it shall be stoned.”
Hebrews 12:21 ESV
Indeed, so terrifying was the sight that Moses said, “I tremble with fear.”
Hebrews 12:22 ESV
But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering,
Hebrews 12:23 ESV
and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect,
Hebrews 12:24 ESV
and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.
heb 12
Hebrews 12:25 ESV
See that you do not refuse him who is speaking. For if they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape if we reject him who warns from heaven.
Hebrews 12:26 ESV
At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.”
Hebrews 12:27 ESV
This phrase, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of things that are shaken—that is, things that have been made—in order that the things that cannot be shaken may remain.
Hebrews 12:28 ESV
Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe,
Hebrews 12:29 ESV
for our God is a consuming fire.

A PROPER PERSPECTIVE ON HEARING GOD

Hebrews 12:25 ESV
See that you do not refuse him who is speaking. For if they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape if we reject him who warns from heaven.
SEE THAT” = Take care not to
beware
be careful not to
to make sure
REFUSE: refuse to listen or to hear: BUT, better is this understanding: to disregard God’s speaking
TO ACTIVELY AND WILLFULLY BEHAVE LIKE WHAT GOD IS SAYING IS NOT IMPORTANT

Hebrews 12:18 ESV

Hebrews 12:20 ESV

Hebrews 3:14 ESV
For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end.
Hebrews 3:15 ESV
As it is said, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”
HEB 3:14-19
Hebrews 3:16 ESV
For who were those who heard and yet rebelled? Was it not all those who left Egypt led by Moses?
Hebrews 3:17 ESV
And with whom was he provoked for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?
12
Hebrews 3:18 ESV
And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, but to those who were disobedient?
Hebrews 3:19 ESV
So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief.
BUT THE WITNESS AND WORK OF CHRIST SPEAKS A BETTER WORD (V24)
Hebrews 12:25 ESV
See that you do not refuse him who is speaking. For if they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape if we reject him who warns from heaven.
NOTE: Don’t refuse Him who IS speaking (Present tense)
Hebrews 1:1–2 ESV
Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.
How is the Lord STILL speaking?
His Word (nothing new)
His Pastors
Hebrews 13:7 ESV
Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith.
Hebrews 13:17 ESV
Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.
THEREFORE, IF THE GENERATION OF MOSES’ DAY REJECTED AND REBELLED AGAINST THE WORD OF THE LORD COMMUNICATED IN THE LAW, WHAT WILL BE THE REALITY FOR TOSE WHO REJECT THIS WORD FROM CHRIST
Hebrews 2:1 ESV
Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it.
Hebrews 2:2 ESV
For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution,
Hebrews 2:3 ESV
how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard,
Hebrews 2:1–3 ESV
Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard,

HEARING GOD DEMANDS THE FOLLOWING

1. Seeking forgiveness from the Lord for disregarding His Word

2. Listen to the man of God who speaks the Word of God to you

NOTE: Don’t refuse Him who IS speaking (Present tense)

2 Corinthians 5:20 ESV
Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.
1 Thessalonians 2:13 ESV
And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in you believers.

A PROPER PERSPECTIVE ON GRATEFULNESS

Hebrews 12:27 ESV
This phrase, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of things that are shaken—that is, things that have been made—in order that the things that cannot be shaken may remain.
A Proper Perspective of gramewtfulness
Hebrews 12:28 ESV
Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe,

Gratitude: a deep sense of thankfulness that is rooted in the reality of God

Thanksgiving is best expressed when we are in a context that highlights what we have in Jesus
-E Salvador experience

Ease of life clouds the beauty and the necessity of God

Persecution shines the light of His beauty, His worth, His value and His glory
In this context of suffering the Hebrew writer calls us to be thankful: to live in suffering with a heart of thanksgiving:
See its easy to act thankful when all is well BUT
what happens when there is no encouragement?
what happens when trouble is all around?
what happens when that relationship hits a brick wall?
what happens when that brother or sister gets under your skin?
ARE WE THANKFUL THEN??
Is Our Worship On Point then?
ARE WE THANKFUL THEN??
BUT INTO THIS CHAOS OF PERSECUTION HE CALLS US TO BE THANKFUL
FOR WHAT
Though suffering you have been given a kingdom
Though experiencing instability in this life you have the certainty of a kingdom that cannot be shaken
OH YES!:
SUFFERING MAY BE OUR SITUATION
DISRESPECT MY BE OUR EXEPRIENCE
ISOLATION MAY BE OUR PAIN
BUT WE GOT A KINGDOM THAT IS UNSHALKEABLE
2 Corinthians 4:8 ESV
We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair;
2 Corinthians 4:9 ESV
persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;
WE HAVE SOME NEGATIVE EXPERIENCES IN THIS WORLD - BUT WE HAVE ETERNAL SECURITY IN THE COMING KINGDOM THAT IS BEING GIVEN TO US
SO BE THANKFUL!!!

1. Start your day with three things for which you are thankful to the Lord

THIS IS WHY WE ARE ALWAYS
It is the mark of the believer that distinguishes him or her from the world
Ephesians 5:3 ESV
But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints.
Ephesians 5:4 ESV
Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving.
start in the morning before the day steals your focus

2. Tell one person each week one thing for which you are thankful to God for them

A PROPER PERSPECTIVE ON WHO THE END TIME CHARACTER OF THE LORD
