Introduction

Last week we spoke about the first Miracle and how to be like Him we must follow after Him and that we must shine light in the dark. Our focus should be on the inside, the heart, rather than the outside.
This Week
The temptations
We all have been tempted.
Chick-fil-a frosted caramel coffee
As we will see tonight, Jesus Himself was tempted.
The Bible Exposition Commentary Chapter Three: This Is the Son of God! (Luke 3–4)

It is better to be hungry in the will of God than satisfied out of the will of God.

Here are some verses you may know from scripture that teach us much about temptation.
(NIV)
16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.
(NIV)
7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
(NIV)
18 Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
(NIV)
12 Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him. 13 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14 but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

To be more like Jesus we must walk in the spirit

(NIV)
1 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2 where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry.
Walking with the Spirit means staying in constant consciousness of God.
Keeping focus and filtering out distraction.

To be more like Jesus, we must believe in God’s supply.

(NIV)
3 The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.” 4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.’”

Garden of Eden

To be like jesus, we must trust god’s promises and be willing to suffer.

(NIV)
5 The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. 6 And he said to him, “I will give you all their authority and splendor; it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. 7 If you worship me, it will all be yours.” 8 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.’”
Jesus had it all already. He had to suffer first

To be like Jesus, we must choose obedience.

(NIV)
9 The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down from here. 10 For it is written: “ ‘He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully; 11 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’” 12 Jesus answered, “It is said: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’” 13 When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time.
even at the holliest of places we can be tempted
