Have You Ever Been Rejected Before?

People ask, “Why do bad things happen to good people?”
Romans 1:18 NASB95
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,
(orge) “wrath” - Holy displeasure and righteous vengeance against sin.
“Revealed from Heaven” - Quality wrath. Always righteous. Never loses temper.
God is just, never condemning unless deserved.
“Ungodliness” - lack of devotion, worship --- “Unrighteousness” - The result (Both lead to another)
Living outside of God’s order. Suppresses truth.
Why does ever person deserve the wrath of God?

1. God’s Revelation (v. 19-20)

Creation alone reveals that there is a God. Everything is knowable.
Our mind helps us understand. Seeing what is made tells us there is a maker.
Helen Keller pg 77, Robert Jastrow pg 79-80
God revealed His nature through creation to be acknowledged. People are rejecting His revelation.

2. Man’s Rejection (v. 21)

The light of revelation shined and man rejected it. “You’re not there!’
They didn’t worship Him or say “thank you”.
Their thoughts of creation & God became foolish. stupid
A vegetarian rejects meat. (Makes a lot of food to look like meat.)
Man rejects God’s love before His wrath is poured out. (What choice do we have?)

3. Man’s Rationalization (v. 22)

Trying to justify themselves, they rationalized their sin.
Trying to be wise about God, the universe, themselves, they became fools.
No way to determine right from wrong, heaven & earth, etc.
When a young teen boy thinks he’s a “man”.
When we reject God, we will cling to something else to live by.

4. Man’s Religion (v. 23)

The world is full of “man made” religion. From “god’s” to empty philosophy.
The rejection is not simply left at unbelief. It’s exchanged to something else.
Every from of idolatry is self worship.
What is the earthly effect of God’s wrath?
“gave over” Giving up body to be burned, prison, death.
“Lusts” (epithumia) - A desire for what is forbidden.
Don’t simply pinpoint one group or one sin.
***Warning***
GOD WILL GIVE US WHAT WE’VE REJECTED HIM FOR. WE WILL GET WHAT WE ASK FOR.
