Introduction (Defining the Pain)
1 When all the nation had finished passing over the Jordan, the Lord said to Joshua, 2 “Take twelve men from the people, from each tribe a man, 3 and command them, saying, ‘Take twelve stones from here out of the midst of the Jordan, from the very place where the priests’ feet stood firmly, and bring them over with you and lay them down in the place where you lodge tonight.’ ” 4 Then Joshua called the twelve men from the people of Israel, whom he had appointed, a man from each tribe. 5 And Joshua said to them, “Pass on before the ark of the Lord your God into the midst of the Jordan, and take up each of you a stone upon his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the people of Israel, 6 that this may be a sign among you. When your children ask in time to come, ‘What do those stones mean to you?’ 7 then you shall tell them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord. When it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. So these stones shall be to the people of Israel a memorial forever.”
Joshua 4:
Memorials are an important part of our history. They make us remember the pain, the struggle, and the victories of life.
The world is moving so fast that people quickly forget the things of yesterday dealing with the things of today.
Memorials can be in the form of stone, national holidays, or even books.
What memorials have you established to remember what God has done in your life.

1 Cor 10:
1 For I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, 2 and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, 3 and all ate the same spiritual food, 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ.
This was the second time Israel passed through the waters.
The parting of the Red Sea
When God delivers you from something He is bringing you to something.
They went from Egypt to Mt. Sinai.
4 ‘You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself.
Exodus 19:4
They went from Egypt to Mt. Sinai.
The parting of the Jordan
The parting of the Jordan
The Mt. Sinai was never the place God was taking them. The wilderness is where God meets you.
In all your struggle and pain.
Teaching you to lean on him and trust in him.
The wilderness is a training ground for battle.
Baptism is always an illustration of coming out of
You’re always baptized out of something into something.
22 And the Lord showed signs and wonders, great and grievous, against Egypt and against Pharaoh and all his household, before our eyes. 23 And he brought us out from there, that he might bring us in and give us the land that he swore to give to our fathers.
23 And he brought us out from there, that he might bring us in and give us the land that he swore to give to our fathers.

15 And the Lord said to Joshua, 16 “Command the priests bearing the ark of the testimony to come up out of the Jordan.” 17 So Joshua commanded the priests, “Come up out of the Jordan.” 18 And when the priests bearing the ark of the covenant of the Lord came up from the midst of the Jordan, and the soles of the priests’ feet were lifted up on dry ground, the waters of the Jordan returned to their place and overflowed all its banks, as before.
Josh 4:15-
God only makes a way to go forward not a way to go back.
There is no retreat when your walking in victory.

Train the Next Generation in the wonders of God.
Over and over again in the scriptures we are commanded to train the children, to instruction them, and nurture them in the ways of the Lord.
Why do you suppose we have middle schoolers claiming to be atheist or agnostic. Because we are not passing down the wonders of God.
There’s no memorials of God being taught in the home anymore.
21 And he said to the people of Israel, “When your children ask their fathers in times to come, ‘What do these stones mean?’ 22 then you shall let your children know, ‘Israel passed over this Jordan on dry ground.’
21 And he said to the people of Israel, “When your children ask their fathers in times to come, ‘What do these stones mean?’ 22 then you shall let your children know, ‘Israel passed over this Jordan on dry ground.’ 23 For the Lord your God dried up the waters of the Jordan for you until you passed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up for us until we passed over, 24 so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of the Lord is mighty, that you may fear the Lord your God forever.”
Josh 4:21
God’s heart is in the children’s ministry.
God’s heart is in the children’s ministry.
God knows that training up the children is the key to changing the world.
If we fail to train the children we lose a generation.
When you teach the kids the wonders of God you are reminded of them again.
When you teach the kids the wonders of God you are reminded of them again.
The children’s ministry should be the dearest thing to our hearts, but yet we can’t get people to even volunteer.
You want to change a generation? You don’t have to be a great evangelist. Just show up and love on some kids next Sunday.
you don’t have to take them home you just got to teach them for an hour and a half.
(Pull out your phones and open up Church Center) Our kids ministry needs three new teachers and three new aides right now.

God doesn’t miraculously move you from Egypt, the world, sin, and a slave for you to keep it to yourself.
God doesn’t miraculously move you from Mt. Sinai, the wilderness, law, and a saint to keep it to yourself.
God brings you into Caanan, the Promise Land, grace, and a soldier for the whole world to know He is God.

Ps 150
1 Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens! 2 Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness! 3 Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp! 4 Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe! 5 Praise him with sounding cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals! 6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!
Conclusion
Today, I have brought with me 3 memorials that I keep to the Lord.
My Silver dollar. It was given to me by my first mentor. I keep it as a memorial of how God invested in my life so I can invest in others.
My bullet. I got this bullet the day a rescued a guy from committing suicide. When I got to his house he was waving the gun around saying he wanted to die. As I talked him down he gave me the gun and I emptied it immediately. I keep this bullet to remind me that I put my life on the line for the gospel of Christ and am willing to die if necessary that others might live.
My Bible. This is my first wide margin Bible. The notes that are recorded in this Bible are not just my thoughts but times that God met with me and taught me personally his truths. It reminds me that my God speaks to me directly and guides through his Word.
What are your memorials from the Lord? If we want to see our world turn to Christ We Must:
Remember his mighty hand.
