1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. 2 And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre. 3 And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments: 5 And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? 6 He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, 7 Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. 8 And they remembered his words, 9 And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest. 10 It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles. 11 And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not. 12 Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.

1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. 2 And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre. 3 And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:
The first day of the week
The week would have begun with the Sabbath on Saturday evening; however, Christ still rose on Sunday
a proper rendering of this passage would be “after the sabbath day as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week
spices they had prepared
Remember after Christ’s death Joseph took the body and buried it, he may have put some spices on it at the time, scripture does not say but...
The women here came to the tomb to put spices on his body which no doubt would have already been decaying and stinking in the middle eastern heat
The condition of the grave
When they arrived the found the tomb open (each of the four gospels include this detail)
in in Mark we can see as they are going to the tomb, they are concerned about how they are going to get it open
3 And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre?
They went in and found no body
Later on, peter and an unnamed disciple went to the tomb, but the unnamed disciple did not go in, the women here had no such hesitation and immediately entered the tomb and found that the lord’s body was not there.
The Two men
Put yourself in their shoes you had devoted a good portion of your life to following Christ 3 days ago he was killed you are now trying to figure out if it was all a waste you arrive at his tomb and he is gone. you are at a total loss at this point.
the description that Luke gives of the men implies the heavenly origin

Matthew speaks of one angel who rolled the stone away and spoke to the women

mark refers to a young man in a white robe they saw after entering the tomb
mark refers to a young man in a white robe they saw after entering the tomb
John refers to two angels in white
John refers to two angels in white
all these references are referring to the angels who were present at the tomb.
all these references are referring to the angels who were present at the tomb.
the fact that we see one angel in some gospels and two in others is not a cause for concern a spokesmen is more important than his associates and some just left out the fact that there were others present the important thing is what they were told by the angel.

5 And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? 6 He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, 7 Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.
The women were understandably afraid and bowed their faces to the ground, this was a mark or respect in the presence of greatness.
The angels asked a raveling question why to do you seek the living among the dead?
6 He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, 7 Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.
It is interesting to note here that the “religious leaders” were well aware that Christ had said he would rise again, but his followers were not.
22 Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day.

After the angel told them these things they remembered and went and told the disciples
7 But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you.
notice that instruction go tell his disciples…and peter
Peter had denied the lord three times later on one can see his fellowship restored when the Lord tells him to feed his sheep then at Pentecost, he pronounces one of the most powerful sermons in human history.
They beloved them not
so, the women went and told what they had seen to everyone that would listen, but they thought they were crazy
36 And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. 37 But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. 38 And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? 39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
Christ rose again and he appeared to many
This was an accrual historical event!
