Life comes at you HARD
In the early years of Nolan Ryan's American League pitching career (remember, the Mets had him and let him go) Ryan was called on one day to pitch against the Detroit Tigers. An All-Star leadoff man was sent to the plate to bat against Ryan. He got to see three pitches, missed all of them and dutifully trudged back to the dugout.
A fellow batter sitting on the bench near him asked, "What do you think?"
"We'll get 'em tomorrow," he sighed.
The leadoff hitter was confronted with something he totally understood; overwhelming force and power. He knew, just knew, there was no way to combat what he was seeing.
