God’s Search for Men

“I looked for someone who might rebuild the wall of righteousness that guards the land. I searched for someone to stand in the gap in the wall so I wouldn’t have to destroy the land, but I found no one.”

30“I looked for someone who might rebuild the wall of righteousness that guards the land. I searched for someone to stand in the gap in the wall so I wouldn’t have to destroy the land, but I found no one.

“Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.”

7Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.

God created man in His image (; ). He was created for fellowship with God. Sin marred this fellowship, but God made a way to redeem man from his sin (). God would send Jesus into the world to die for the sins of man (). Through this man would be born again (). After being born again man is called to do God’s work (; ). He does not call all to be ministers, or missionaries, but He does call all men to be soul-winners.

I. GOD LOOKS FOR DECISIVE MEN, DEDICATED MEN, COMMITTED MEN.

A. Joshua decided that he would serve God. “So fear the Lord and serve him wholeheartedly. Put away forever the idols your ancestors worshiped when they lived beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord alone.”

14“Now therefore revere the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness; put away the gods that your ancestors served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord.
14“So fear the Lord and serve him wholeheartedly. Put away forever the idols your ancestors worshiped when they lived beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord alone.

B. Joshua decided that his family would serve God.

“But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.”

II. GOD LOOKS FOR MEN WITH DESIRE, DESIRE FOR WHAT?.......

A DESIRE THAT MEN SEEK HIM, SEEK HOLINESS, SEEK THE HOLY SPIRIT

A. Desire to know the person of God. “I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death,”

10I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death, ().

B. Desire to know the plan of God “The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.”..... . God will make His will known to us if we seek Him.

C. Desire to know the power of God . “And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see.” His power is available to keep us.

Paul tells us in “For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile."

16For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile.

D. Desire to have the protection of God,

2This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.

“2 This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him. 3 For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. 4 He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.”

3For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease.

4He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.

III. GOD LOOKS FOR MEN WITH DEDICATION, Dedication to what?

A. Dedicated and consistent to serve God. It takes a strong person to serve God.

B. Dedicated to stand for God. Anyone can quit; anyone can go along with the crowd. But to stand and be different is difficult and requires God’s help. Paul tells us in Philippians 4:13-14...

“13 For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. 14 Even so, you have done well to share with me in my present difficulty.”

13For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.
14Even so, you have done well to share with me in my present difficulty.

C. Dedicated to suffer for the Lord. “12 Yes, and everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.”

IV. GOD LOOKS FOR MEN WITH DETERMINATION. LET’S DISCUSS DETERMINATION FOR A MOMENT..........

A. Willing to suffer for the Lord as Paul suffered. In , Luke tells us: “24 But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.”

24 But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.

B. Willing to allow Satan to persecute as Paul was persecuted.

God’s work only goes forward as man does His work. God could use angels, but He depends on man. He worked through the judges, kings, prophets, disciples, apostles, and church leaders. He works through the laymen, who dedicate their lives to Him. The greatest need in any church is dedicated laymen.
