Happy Fathers Day! We have a few things planned this morning for Fathers day that will happen later but for now, I though I might just have a quick word to the ladies about how to care for the men in their lives. I found this great article called “tips to look after your husband (Extract from 1950 Home Economics Book”. Just one points.
Dads across the nation are sleeping in. Getting breakfast in bed. generally being waited upon.
There is something amazing about it.
What a great bit of advice. I think we have all learnt something valuable already today.
What does fathers day mean to the church?
Lets press on to notices.
Notices:
As we all know today is fathers day. Fathers across our nation are being celebrated. Sleep ins, breakfast in bed, and gifts. Many are celebrating Dads that have been incredible influences in their lives. Men that have been present, active and interested in their kids. Still others are celebrating because they have a dad that has provided what they need. A roof over their heads, clothing and food. Many of us sit in these categories. But there are many others that for today they celebrate because they are obliged to. Because they have a father biologically related to them and not much more than that. And there are those that don’t celebrate at all, because of a huge mix of terrible reasons. Absense, abuse. and more. Not to mention those that find they cannot even have kids, and will not be a father.
This morning We as a church want to celebrate with those that have good fathers, and mourn with those that don’t. Make much of the blessings, and grieve the losses. But then we want to take it a step further. a look well beyond the biological influence of our fathers. to the faith inheritance.
Inside of the bible there are very few examples of good biological fathers. The greatest examples of this are the lineage of kings. A huge line of fathers. yet only a few of them our of 2 dozen are called good. the rest are given the kind title of Evil.
Yet Fatherhood that passed on faith is made a significant point of. Abraham, Issac and Jacob. Yes they are biological, but they are held as the fathers of faith. a lineage of faith. Elijah, and Elisha, a father of faith to someone that he was not biologically related. Paul ra
