WWJD! Does anyone know what that stands for?
I could go on but the point I am trying to make here is
Right What would Jesus Do? Most of us are familiar with phrase having come to popularity around the early 90’s. We put the acronym of bracelets and wore them as a constant reminder to live like Jesus.
But did you know the WWJD movement actually started in the late 90’s? That is 1897 when Charles Sheldon a minister from Topeka Kansas used this in a novel titled,

In His steps: What would Jesus Do

Although the popularity may have diminished, on occasion we still hear the WWJD war cry from time to time. Although lately it is usually as a scathing comment from a non-believer criticizing a believers actions or choices.
Of course when anyone ask me WWJD what would Jesus do, I am often quick to remind them that flipping tables and chasing people with whips is not out of the realm of possibilities.
It always amazes me how the world views Jesus. Some deny He ever existed. Of course this is plain lunacy. The life of Jesus was well documented by varying sources not limited to the bible. Although question about the legitimacy of the claims He made, may be brought up, the fact that a man named Jesus born in Bethlehem had acquired some followers and enemies and was hung on a cross is not up for debate. This is a historical certainty if there ever was one.
It always amazes me how so many people can read about the life of Jesus and come up with so many different ideas about what He was and is like.
This is a historical certainty if there ever where one.
For some Jesus was nothing more that a good man who died for nothing, as did most if not all of His closest followers.
For others they view Jesus like a fable, like some wishing star. Making a wish on Him when things get bad but never really expecting that wish to come true. And even if it does seldom would they ever consider giving credit to Jesus.
Others still view Him as a healer of times gone past. Or a weak persons attempt at dealing with death.
Perhaps the reason WWJD never really worked well is not enough people really understand what Jesus would do in our situation.
Do any of these sound familiar to you? And for those who accept Jesus and His claims to being the Son of God, many of them have some strange and often flawed views of who Jesus is as well.
So as I pondered the different things we could talk about today like money, or sex, or forgiveness, patience, I mean the list is seemingly endless.
I thought what better thing for a church to discuss than Jesus. If there is no other name by which we must be saved
Others view Jesus as soft on sin. This was most likely the Pharisees view of Jesus as they constantly ridiculed Him for eating with sinners and tax collectors. For some this is why they don’t think He could be God. For others they love this as they think it doesn’t matter how they live.
Others view Jesus as judgmental always passing judgment on those He was around especially the Pharisees. I mean if anyone had the right to be the Holier than thou type wound’t it be Jesus?
Sometimes I wonder if anyone has an accurate view and understanding of who Jesus is.
So I thought let’s talk about Jesus. You know the whole reason we are here.
