Greetings

1 Thessalonians 1:1

Jesus is Lord and Messiah

What is the significance of saying “Lord” and “Christ”, why not just one or the other?

Giving Thanks

2 We give thanks to God always for all of you, making mention of you in our prayers;

3 constantly bearing in mind

He Chose You

He Chose You

How does Paul know God has chosen them?

1 Thessalonians 1:4 NASB95
knowing, brethren beloved by God, His choice of you;
1 Thessalonians 1:4
The word “knowing” is a transition word tying it to the previous verse
The word “for” in verse 5 is a transition word tying it to verse 4

is the fulcrum

Power of the Gospel

This statement is based on both verse 3 and 5.

Evident by their fruit

1 Thessalonians 1:3 NASB95
constantly bearing in mind your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the presence of our God and Father,
What would people say if they examined your fruit?

Evident by your fruit

Evident by their response

The church of Thessalonica showed themselves to be believers by their fruit and by their response. There was a change in their behavior and a true repentance based on conviction.
Have you received Christ in “full conviction”?
Have you received Christ in “full conviction?

Imitators - 1 Thessalonians 1:6

Received the word in much tribulation...

Remember , The Jews became jealous and formed a mob!
Yet he says with “joy of the Holy Spirit” Even in severe hardships they had joy.
So even in severe hardships they had joy…

Great Example

shows us the example this church was to others
What is the wrath to come?
Paul says that he knows God has chosen them & beloved them
because of their works/fruit (vs 3)
because of their response (vs 5)
