INTRODUCTION?

We are looking at the second time Jesus cleansed the temple:
The first time
The motive for was because zeal for the Lords house had eaten Jesus up.
Also to teach that Jesus will soon replace the need for the Temple.
The temple was a place to encounter God.
Now we have no need for a temple because we have Jesus but we still go to church to encounter Jesus. Whether through His Word, praising Him, or praying to Him.
a place to encounter God
Lets read the second time Jesus cleanses the Temple
Matthew 21:12–16 NKJV
12 Then Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. 13 And He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’ ” 14 Then the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and He healed them. 15 But when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying out in the temple and saying, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant 16 and said to Him, “Do You hear what these are saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes. Have you never read, ‘Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have perfected praise’?
What was the result of Jesus cleansing the Temple
A place free from selfish ambition
A place of prayer
A place where miracles are possible
A place where miracles are possible
A place where children perfect praise. As a result the world got indignant.
Why did I share this verse?
because selfish ambition, prayer, miracles, and children producing praise is what I have lived.
My wife and I fell in love with our baby instantly
Its easy to become selfish I thought my baby was mine and that he is the safest under my care.
Nehemiah was ours and we were proud parents of a healthy strong baby and we thought we had the control to continue that.
Meanwhile life became all about me and my family… nothing else really mattered..

A place free from selfish ambition

I always wondered what that would have looked like when Jesus overturned the tables
Overturn - there are two words closely related to this word one is ἐκτείνω which means to extend out like when Jesus extended his hand to heal in (); and κυλίομαι which is a word used for seizures () or like a pig rolling in the mud (). In once sense its chaotic in another sense its purposeful
Teaching us that He first would have reached out his hand and either he threw the table over chaotic like a seizure or purposeful.
κυλίομαι
ἐκτείνω
The opposite of love is not hate but selfishness.
Teaching us that we should be going into church with love not selfishness
Jesus said all the laws of the Bible are fullfilled into 2 things Love God and love others.

A place of prayer

A place where miracles are possible

show evidence of miracles today

A place where children perfect praise. As a result the world got indignant.
