Be Ready
Be Ready
We as Christians need to be ready, to be the first ones! To do what?
V
1 Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work,
2 to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people.
In other words to be an EXAMPLE. The first to show , to act, to be,
Not to REact but to act.
Why?
Not because we are perfect because we were like that one day!
3 For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another.
Titus 3:3
We were in the same situation as they are.
BUT V4 - and this is what’s important and relevant.
JESUS came The good News
4 But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared,
So it’s not our merit or because of us BUT it’s because of JESUS in us.
Regeneration and Renewal
The Anchor Yale Bible Dictionary Regeneration
REGENERATION. The final stage of creation when God’s purposes are fully realized. Regeneration signifies a renovation of all visible things.
These things are excellent and profitable for people.
In the island of Crete they were a port town everyone who came through there the islander so it as an opportunity to make more money. They looked at people as people to get things from. They would extort, they would take bribes, they would rip people of, and even steal.
Maybe you've been to an island like this before maybe a tourist trap. where it felt like everyone wanted to get your money, they wanted to take a lot more them they gave to you.
But here Paul describe the gospel , he purposefully touches his language to be giving, “he poured out “ not only poured it out but “he poured it out generously on us”
6 whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior,
He is saying that God does not want to take from you but He wants to give to you.
For the Cretans this would have transformed how they approached life in general
God is not here to rip you of, He wants to give you V7 And the “so that” give you the answer.
7 so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
And than Paul give the last exhortation V9
9 But avoid foolish controversies, genealogies, dissensions, and quarrels about the law, for they are unprofitable and worthless.
The law doesnt even mater when you are dealing with grace.
Conclusion
What about us: have you come to see how precious you are to God? And there for seen that, have you seen how precious the people around you are to Him also.
And to end of Paul leaves us with v 14
14 Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order to provide for urgent needs and not live unproductive lives.
