Mission and Vision

Don’t Grow Weary

As I was sitting in my office asking God what I was supposed to preach about… he gave me this passage
I was asking him what his children needed. What encouragement was needed? WHat correction was needed?
God gave me this passage in Galatians
Paul is talking to the church in Galatia
This church had fallen under some false teachings that had the members of the community of faith following works based righteousness. These were people seeking mans approval through circumcision in order to feel like they are truly a part of the blessed people of the covenant of God
After Paul crafts an excellent letter covering all sorts of stuff including the freedom that we have in Christ and how we are not bound to old traditions but to the new life in Jesus,
living by faith, the law vs the promise of God. Being justified by faith vs by the the law
Paul comes to the ending where he is giving encouragement to the brothers and sisters of Galatia
He tells them to bear one another’s burdens
to function as a community of faith. Not just a group of people that kinda go to the same location once a week… but to actually be so involved in your brother or sister’s life that you can encourage, correct, and carry each other’s burden
Then we get to our section.
v6 The one who is taught the word share all good things with the one who teaches
v7 Do not be deceived: God is not mocked
We see the Kingdom principle of sowing and reaping
Now don’t get confused… this is not Karma
As CHristians we don’t believe in Karma
Karma is the idea that if you do good you’ll get good and if you do bad you’ll get bad
Idk if any of you pay attention to the actualites of the world, but there are some people doing some pretty terrible things that are recieving some awesome worldly favor
Sowing and reaping is different from Karma for 2 reasons
1 Sowing and reaping is true and Karma is false
2. They dynamic of reaping is grossly disproportionate to the practice of reaping
what does that mean
That means if you sow an apple seed… you don’t expect one apple. you expect an apple producing tree
You sow one grain of wheat, you don’t expect one grain of wheat. you expect a plant that has something like 70 kernals of wheat on each head
When you are sowing you will reap something greater than what you sowed
Stick with me… we’ll get to the wearyness
He tells us to not be decieved because in our human nature we desire immediate results amen?
And in part that is why Karma seems so attractive. We can point to anything bad or good and say well that must be because they did something bad or good… when in truth reaping takes time
What you sow at the beginning of the season you don’t get to reap until harvest. You can’t go out in the middle of the season and expect a harvest
You have to go through the dry seasons, through the weeding, through the whole process and you have to wait until the harvest is ready and then you get to reap
the reaping comes after the season is complete… not one second before
In our humanity we tend to perceve the work that we are putting into something and then not seeing the harvest from that investment and we think that God failed and we walk away
We walk away from the harvest disgusted and defeated when the harvest wasn’t ready
I love that Paul says that we will reap in due season if we do not give up
That is you can experience the break through that God has for you , you can experience the growth that God has for you, you can experience the with Jesus life that God has promised to you.. if you don’t give up
The problem is that we tend to get weary of doing good
We look around at the world and its ways and we see the wicked blessed, we see the evil healthy, we see those who are living contrary to God and they look happy. And we think why should I keep on trecking if I’m not even going to experience the results of my labor
GOD IS NOT MOCKED
There are 2 things that I want to point out
First is you will not experience the harvest that God has for you if you are sowing in the flesh
You can’t spend your time talent and treasure on the things of this world and then get mad at God when you’re not growing in your walk
you can’t spend your time talent and treasure on your self, on keeping up with the jonses, on pleasing yourself, on some sense of feeling like a good person through works based righteousness and then get mad at God when you are not experiencing the depth of relationship with him that you want
I can’t spend all day and night hanging out with Mark Green and expect to get to know my wife better
where you invest you will see a harvest
You will not expereince growth in your relationship with the Lord if you are investing in the flesh. If you are investing in yourself. If you are investing in your image.
Second
You will not experience a harvest if you give up
If you just throw in the towel and say that this life of loving Jesus and loving others isn’t worth… don’t expect Jesus to be like… oh in that case I’ll give you all this growth and depth and the warm fuzzies to come back
Anything worth praying for is worth laboring over
Jesus didn’t call us to come and give part time to a social club where you get to feel good about yourself
He said come and die!!!
He said follow me with all that you are and all that you have
It’s all his anyway!
Do not grow weary
Don’t think that the Lord doesn’t see you.
That the enemy is winning and that you are defeated
The God i serve knows only how to proser!!!!
You may look at the board and think the enemy is winning but we are playing chess not checkers!!!
If the only piece you have on the board is Jesus… you are still in the game and he is the only king that cant’ be taken!!!!
Who cares what others are doing.. You keep doing what Jesus calls you to do
who cares what the state of the world is… you keep trusting in the God who can’t lie
Who cares if they don’t appreciate your hospitality…you’re not doing it for them! You are investing in your relationship with the living God who died on a Cross to welcome you into an eternal life that starts now
Don’t let your situation determine your blessedness
You are blessed by the Lord and his promises not by this world and its fleetingness
Do not give up! Do not grow weary.
Rest in the everlasting love and peace of Jesus Christ and be renewed!
Paul is telling us that if you sow in the flesh you will reap corruption but if you sow into the spirit you will reap eternal life
