It’s a beautiful day in this neighborhood,
A beautiful day for a neighbor,
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?
It’s a neighborly day in this beautywood,
A neighborly day for a beauty,
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?
I have always wanted to have a neighbor just like you,
I’ve always wanted to live in a neighborhood with you.
So let’s make the most of this beautiful day,
Since we’re together, we might as well say,
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?
Won’t you be my neighbor?
Won’t you please, won’t you please,
Please won’t you be my neighbor?
This was a song that was written, sang, and acted through Fred Rogers in the program Mister Roger’s Neighborhood.
For 32 years Mister Roger taught all people of all ages how to live lives of being a neighbor.
He taught culture, music, art, you name it he had it on the show but the question always was won’t you be my neighbor.
Ask the person to your left won’t you please and the one to the right won’t you please and the one in front of you please won’t you be my neighbor?
Today we will talk about being a servant of a God and a friend to man?
Let us pray:
:25
The secret to have eternal life.
Luke 10:26
Jesus answers this lawyer with another question.
Luke 10:27
This is the completion of the ten commandments.
The first four of God’s law deals with the laws directly about the relationship of God and human and the last six laws deals with the direct connection of man to man.
So the lawyer pass the question on the test by saying love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.
The lawyer was covering all of God’s law.
Luke 10:28
Then Jesus answers well done lawyer you have answered your own question for eternal life.
Now this is a more difficult question that even till today we struggle.
The lawyer almost has the answer within the same question.
But the reason the answer was not clear for the lawyer was for one little word.
Let see how Jesus answered this question.
Luke 10:30-
Within your Pathfinder pledge you have the answer of who have the law of God.
You will never be able to be a friend to man if you are not a servant of God.
You will not be able to be a servant of God.
Without having a relationship with God and obeying the laws that deals with the relationship with God.
But having the relationship with God should impulse you to have relationships with your neighbor or friends and befriend them.
You see that was the issue of the priest or pastors or Levites or the saints of the church at those times.
The had gotten the knowledge of God the Law was in their minds but they had not been able to transfer that knowledge of the law into practical applications with their people that surrounded them.
Now the Samaritans not Jews because of the but a race that the Jews did not like because of cultural and religious practice Jesus demonstrated what he did.
he had compassion on the man
bandaged his wounds
poured on oil and wine
set him on his own animal
brought him to an inn
took care of him
he paid the price of the care
This Samaritan is the sample of Jesus
Jesus has compassion on us
Through Jesus wounds our wounds are healed
Jesus is our oil and wine that heals all of our life’s issues
Jesus is the lamb of God that takes away all sins
Jesus is preparing a place for you and me to dwell with Him
We will dwell with Him and He will take care of us
Jesus has paid the ultimate price
The lawyers question should have not been “ who is my neighbor but how can I be a neighbor”
You see Jesus became our neighbor when
we where yet sinners Jesus came to rescue us.
Jesus left his glorious throne in heaven to come to this filthiest earth to save us
Jesus rescued us from the thief Satan that come to kill and destroy.
But Jesus is the better Samaritan because he defeated the robber by dying on the cross and giving his life for you and me so that way the robber can never take us away from him.
When we become a servant of God we go to God and ask Him “How can I be a neighbor?”
then God will teach you to become a friend to man which then fulfills the law of God and you have entered into eternal life.
So today would you like to ask God “How can I be a neighbor?”
Do you want to be filled with the spirit of God so He can shine through you and you can become a friend to man.
