Don't Sell the Truth

The truth is a valuable commodity, but it does not always show its value up front. There are times in life where it will seem convenient to sell the truth. But 'when he has gone his way', the buyer rejoices. In the long run, truth will pay dividends.

Proverbs 23:23 KJV 1900
Buy the truth, and sell it not; Also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
Proverbs 20:14 KJV 1900
It is naught, it is naught, saith the buyer: But when he is gone his way, then he boasteth.

Recognizing a Treasure

Proverbs 23:23 KJV 1900
Buy the truth, and sell it not; Also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
Distinguish truth from untruth.
The Royal Tyrell Museum near Drumheller is a great example of distinguishing truth. There is an abundance of mesmerizing geological facts and artifacts, and all of it is presented through the presumption of evolutionary theory. It is an exercise in critical judgment to filter the information you see, and extracting what is true from what is false to embrace what is true.
Two aspects to buying: commitment and cost.
Purchasing is a commitment; you are making a decision for one thing. This is closing the alternatives off
Purchasing is a cost; purchasing truth comes with a social cost, a personal cost, possibly even a financial cost as you forego opportunities that come at the expense of truth.

Recognizing a Bargain

Proverbs 20:14 KJV 1900
It is naught, it is naught, saith the buyer: But when he is gone his way, then he boasteth.
A good buyer is going to understimate the value of a good when he is negotiating to purchase it, and only admit the value after he has made the sale. This is the way to get the best deal. It’s very interesting to sit in a negotiating session, and watch a buyer talk down an item, then crow about his/her deal when they walk away from the negotiating room with the newly acquired possession in hand.

Realizing the Reward

Look at the phrase ‘when he is gone his way’ from the standpoint of time. The boasting of buying truth comes when you have gone your way.
There is a saying that a lie will make its way half-way around the world before truth gets its pants on.
Many legendary investors such as Warren Buffet and Jack Bogle praise the buy-and-hold approach as ideal for individuals seeking healthy long-term returns.” - https://www.investopedia.com/terms/b/buyandhold.asp
The truth in this is that truth always takes longer to reveal itself than deception. So if you buy truth, there may be a long period of time where it looks like you’re slow, backward, or just ‘not woke’. But let it run its course. And in time, truth will prove itself to be of infinite value.
Psalm 119:14 KJV
14 I have rejoiced in the way of thy testimonies, As much as in all riches.
Psalm 119:72 KJV
72 The law of thy mouth is better unto me Than thousands of gold and silver.
Psalm 119:162 KJV
162 I rejoice at thy word, As one that findeth great spoil.
Matthew 13:44–46 KJV
44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field. 45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: 46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
Matthew 13:44 KJV
44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.
Matthew 13:45–46 KJV
45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: 46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
Philippians 3:13–14 KJV
13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Mt
Pp 3.
Philippians 3:7–8 KJV
7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. 8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,
Psalm 119:72 KJV
72 The law of thy mouth is better unto me Than thousands of gold and silver.
Hebrews 11:24–26 KJV
24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter; 25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; 26 Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.
He 11.25-26
John 6:67–68 KJV
67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? 68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.
